HKS EXHAUST
I need a new exhaust system for my car. How is the HKS Sport exhaust? Does anyone have this or know anything about it? It is only $300, plus I have been having police trouble with my Dunk muffler, so the low profile HKS look will be good. Thanks.
If you are going to get it, you can get it for 33% off at http://www.carparts.com. I think http://www.importhookup.com has the code for the coupon. I think it is just the muffler section though, not a full cat-back.
it's a mild steel system (only rear portion). if your in the northern region or by salt water then i recommend getting a SS muffler and the HKS is not for u.
you really don't get what u pay for there.
the muffler is a baffled muffler. the dunk that u have now is a straight through muffler.

but your still running a stock B-pipe..no? you don't get what u pay for w/ the HKS@$300...for $300 you can get a entire custom mandrel bent exhaust.
but hey you have been "modding" decades before i have so you already know that right?

However, I did like the video of MaxiPad96 with wide open throttle. Looked and sounded nice....
Danny were u directing that at me? (about the modding thing) The HKS exhaust is a full catback, not just muffler...they also sell just a muffler, this is the Sports catback for $300. The amp was hooked up to Bose using a adaptor.

Are you sure??
A catback for $300 retail. That's too good to be true. Maybe you getting some killer discount we don't know about. Even the cheapest Honda Civic catback cost more than that. I think it's probably just a rear section.

no that was at maxipad..(long story from a prev post)..
well if it is indeed that HKS changed their production line for us Max owners then $300 wouldn't be their price. HKS products tends to be slightly*(understatement) inflated. last time i checked it was only the rear section. double check b4 u buy.

Damn, it is just the rear section! I can't believe they don't say that in the ad! Thanks everyone for givin me a heads up, I owe you. So now that HKS is outa the picture, what other exhaust options do I have...I need something fairly low-key and quiet. Thanks guys.

I run a courtest b-pipe with a Y2K stock muffler. Very noticable performance difference, with NO increase in noise.
(I love my music even more than performance so I wanted a quiet exhaust with no droning) I can tell a noticable difference between my Max and my wife's I30 with no exhaust mods. Engine seems more eager throughout the rev band; you can tell when the valve opens above about 2500. Requires some minor mods to rear bumper to fit oval outlet. I cut mine with a coping saw, and covered the edge with self adhesive black door edge moulding. The inlet of the muffler also required minor mod to mate with aft end on the courtesy b-pipe. good luck. Some of the best, and worst, money I have spent was on exhausts. Be sure you advice is taken from someone with similar priorities.

Simple Solution!
Apexi sells Super Silencer Baffle for all of their universal mufflers. The Silencer slips into the tip and really quiets it down. I have the Apexi N-1 which is loud, but you with the silencer you can barely hear it. Its only $50, you need to drill a hole in the tip for the screw. Otherwise Apexi RS muffler is a chambered muffler with 4" tip, very quiet.
