Ok folks, the money's getting tight and I've decided I need to stop ripping up the asphalt in ny and slow down to stop wasting so much gas. =)

Since I've only been driving a stick for a few months I'm wondering, what are the optimal shift points on a stock 96 for getting the best mileage?

Thanks,
Chris

In the owner's manual of my 96, it says:

1-2 @ 13mph
2-3 @ 23mph
3-4 @ 33mph
4-5 @ 39mph

I used to try to remember this, until I realized that each shift just tries to keep engine rpms at about 2000. I guess this is the peak fuel economy point for the VQ (well below the 3K rpm sweet spot - hehe). So I just shift up to get the RPMs back to 2k rather than trying to remember these numbers.
