general question about spark plugs..
Ok, so I'm a bit confused about spark plugs. Do they sit like inside each cylinder? I thought when the car is off, all the fuel is back in the fuel tank...or does some of it still reside in the engine? So...when you turn your key, the spark plugs give a little "spark" that ignites the fuel? What makes the actual engine turn on at the same time that the fuel "combusts"?

yes they sit in each cylinder. as far a fuel there is fuel in the lines and rails. this allows your car to start as soon as you turn the key. if all the fuel went back to the tank it would take 30 seconds to start until fuel reaches the injectors and builds pressure. and the spark plugs do emit a spark which inutes the air/fuel mixture. and as far as the engine turning on when the air/fuel mixture ignites (like an explosion you see in the movies) it has a lot of pressure that has no where to go so it foces the piston down.

Hey, I've already read the Howstuffworks article and they have like all the information condensed into one, and didn't have something this specific. Sorry, I thought some of the members here might be able to help, sorry for bothering you jackasses.
xenomax, thank you for your reply.
