Had A very weird problem YEsterday , very dangerous.
i was makin a right turn yesterday goin about 15 mph at the most i turned the wheel it was a bit of sharp turn
and the steering wheel got locked i couldnt bring it back... just in time it freeed up and i just dodged the curb
i drive a 95 Gle
can someone explain this
this isnt alignment problems is it???
and when i leave the wheel
the car always goes to the left... ive tried this on many different roads to make sure its not the grooves on the road.
any feed back would be appreciated

Hmm...
I kinda experienced this when I tried to juice it through a turn, it felt like the power steering pump shut off or something. I kinda had to fight with it but it loosened up as a got out of the turn. I was told it was torque steer but I could be wrong.
what do u suggest i do ???
is it safe to just let it go ..
god knows if my sis was driving mycar now what woulda happeend to her and the car..

I think you experienced under steer>
If you were exellerating while taking the corner then you probably just experienced understeer a comman problem with front wheel drive cars..If this is true you can avoid this problem by letting off the gas and you should regain full control. You should also get your front end allignment fixed it only cost around $30 other whys you will loose your tires expected life span.
Is this not torque steer?
I've felt this in many FWD cars where while accelerating hard and turning hard at the same time it is VERY difficult to bring the tires straight unless slowing..
Is this torque steer?
I dunno what causes it but I've experienced it on several cars..

Re: Is this not torque steer?
If it isn't torque steer.. then it "could" be your rack & pinion. I had this problem on my Sentra. I turned the wheel and at a certain point it would get hung up... then I would have to turn the opposite way just a bit and then turn in the intended direction. If it doesn't do it all the time then it isn't the problem though. Since your car isn't as old as my Sentra.. hopefully it isn't the rack.
