The MR2 not only jumps the third honk (except in #1 & #2) he lets off just as the Max catches up and about to pass. I love it when guys do that! A lot of times they make the excuse they were ahead so they let up. Ya right he didn't even have time to flip the hazards. What type of mods did that MR2 have btw?

There was some racing this past weekend. A good size group took off to race and my camera man wasn't ready, so we missed the first group. I did get a few runs in. I got challenged to race 2 modded MR2 turbos to run. One was running a stock turbo and wasn't very close on the only run we did. The other was pretty quick with a T64 turbo in it. He hasn't run it in a 1/4, but it ran an 8.4 in an 1/8th. Here are the vids:
1. This is our first run. We had to explain on the road about the standard 3 honk start. This one is from about 50. I got a jump on this one.

2. This is the second run. I waited a little to make sure he got a better start. This one was also from around 50.

3. This is the third run. We started at a lower speed. This one was from around 40. You can see his T64 spools pretty quick.

4. This is the last run. We started real low, around 30. I was about 3000 rpms in 2nd with only about 3 psi on tap. You can see how quick the T64 spools in this one.

Seem like not many people know about the 3 honk rule. When I tried to race someone and told them that, they went WTH? WTH is a 3 honk rule? So now, most of the times I just wait to see if they are going to nail it, then I do the same a split second after. Oh well...

Here is a quick lesson in proper street racing edicate. All true street racers want the best race possible. If you watch some of my videos, you will notice if I get a big jump I let off immediately and run again. If someone blows a shift, I don't consider it a win. I will re-challenge and run again. I don't race for money, so I have nothing to lose or gain by calling a fake win a win and note I video and post my losses.
The first rule is never run in heavy traffic. I have done this in the past, but it is extremely dangerous and insane. It is one thing to play with your own life and another to play with someone else's. If you need running room, you can always make it. Get a car in each lane and slow way down until all the traffic is well ahead. Yes, it irritates some of the drivers behind you, but they won't be seeing you for much longer. It can make that run a lot of fun instead of an innocent fatality. Remember, you can not control the other drivers on the road, so it is best to not have to run around them.
Next, follow the 3 honk rule. To get the most equal start, one of the drivers honks(slowly) 3 times. After(not before or during) the third honk, everyone goes. If you get slaughtered, go ahead and do a jump after to see how it will end up. Regardless of the jump, you will know the true result first run.
Last, remember to have fun. Many of my best races, I lost and the driver of the other car felt a lot worse than I did because I was still so close. My race with the Supercharged S2000 was like that. I lost, but he was upset because I was still next to his door at teh end of the run. Try lining up against a car that runs over a second faster than you in a 1/4 and see how he leaves you. Do you feel your car is slow or his car is really fast? I had a 450+ hp Mustang owner come over and tell me I was very surprisingly quick and I had no chance of hanging with him. There are 2 golden rules to racing: no matter how fast you are, there is always someone faster and no matter how slow you are, there is always someone slower.
