Smoking headlights?
I have done some searching around the forums as well as google, but I haven't found much other than how-tos to smoke bumper lenses, clear corners, and tails, as well as the general consensus that it is a stupid idea to smoke your headlights.
Most of the guides I have seen are pretty dark on the clear corners and tails, however this is not what I am looking to doing.
In 2003 or 2004, Ford made smoked headlights on the Focus and Mustang. The lenses on these factory stock cars are just very very slightly smoked. Obviously it must not have affected light output much and was legal. Here is a picture of what I am talking about:
2004 that has the smoked ones
2001 that are unsmoked
2004 Mustang with smoked
1999 Mustang not smoked
I know with some of these, like that Mustang for example the inside of the headlight housing is painted somewhat like AE lights, however if you actually walk up to one of these Ford products in person and look, the lense itself is actually smoked just a wee bit.
What I am wondering is, how could I do this to my Maxima headlights?
I have heard of VHT Niteshades, but from what I hear you have to layer on enough coatings or else it doesn't look good, thus they end up getting really dark. Is there any way other than having a body shop tint some clearcoat to get this very light smoked look on the headlights?
Thanks guys
