wallet is in my back pocket at all times unless i'm paying for something. the only quick ****** item in my Max is the $1000 sound system but thats if you can get around the loud alarm system, otherwise if you want to spend 10 or 15 minutes trying to get my Sparco seats out or cut my exhaust off i doubt that will work. car is garaged overnight and whenever i'm home for more than 5 minutes, and the Club gets put on everytime i park outside of the garage

Yeah I guess I should start just keeping it in my pocket haha. But I am a poor college student so there isn't anything except a 20 dollar bill here and there. Hell, I bet my clear corners are worth more than the entire contents of my wallet

But I was wondering, because sometimes I don't trust myself with important things like my wallet because I am so forgetful haha. Plus on top of that we need to change our cloths before we get into the shop for my general service technician class and so I don't want to accidentally forget it in the locker or have it fall out somewhere

When a thief wants something you have, they will find a way to get it. No matter how good of an alarm system you have or if it's parked in the garage. When I did repo work few years back, we would go in peoples garage and take the cars or whatever.

 

garage is alarmed too though so when that goes off the cops will be by.

i guess it depends on who you **** off on the net. there are some sites where i'd be afraid to let anyone have even a hint of whom i might be just because the members would get a kick out of screwing with you (4chan anyone?)

 

That seems like a good idea except of one thing, when you have plates on your car only local people are going to see it and only a small amount of people on your daily driving route will see the plate but mostly the car directly behind you will get a GOOD look at your plates and most likely have time to record that down at a red light or something and that could be like 5 or 20 cars depending on the busyness of the roads and such.

But if you post it on the internet you will NEVER know how many people will see it. Someone could copy the picture you posted on Maxima.org and then re-post that same picture on Facebook or something and then one of the "Friends" on facebook could copy that picture and post it on a RICERBOY website. Then the chain could go on and on until thousands or millions of people have stumbled upon your car and license plate. And most of all people out of town or out of state will be not as scared to stop by and do something to your car if they were passing through town or something because once they jack your hood or whatever they can go back to Montanta or New York after taking your hood in Washington and you will never know because you will suspect the people in your immediate area not someone across the country.

Personally that is what I would do if I were to be crazy enough about a car to actually think about stealing it, go for a car that is somewhere far far away from where I live.

But then again there are always dumb dumb silly poo poos around who will steal from their next door neighbor and use that same thing right in front of said neighbor. So... either way with many many dumbasses in the world you never will truly be safe no matter what you do.

Is there any legitimate reason to not block out your plates besides "not feeling like opening photoshop"?

 

to be honest i know of no one that has suffered (knowingly) theft/damage due to internet stalking.

but just watched top gear and they blurred a plate. to me it's common sense. we're on here about what we've
done to our cars. there are idiots on the net as well that will think "hey he's from my state" ... or possible car
thieves.

no one is making anyone do it if not worried. i'm curious why someone feels the need to make fun of those

Because some people take it WAY too far.

We posted pictures of a public-access car show on one of our local car club websites.. One of the car owners- who daily drives his car and had it parked his car in a public parking lot at the time of the photos- had his LAWYER write the club a letter demanding the license plate be removed from the photos or they would pursue further legal action.

That of course also begs the question of how many hundreds of people were there that day taking pictures that were never posted online. You think a wannabe car thief is going to be surfing the net looking for a car to steal? Nah.. they'll just walk through a car show like that, pick out a couple cars they like, write down the plate numbers, and disappear. no muss, no fuss, no internet, no photos.

Look at AutoRama for example... One of the largest hot rod shows in the country. In Houston, they hold it Thanksgiving weekend every year. There are 500+ cars and 500,000+ people that come to these car shows. NOBODY pulls their license plate off their cars, and here you are with 500,000 people looking at your shiny car and you have plenty of time to write the plate number down and walk away. no photos posted online needed.

If someone is going to steal ur sheet, one picture posted online isn't going to cause it.

 

personally, i don't give a p00p about my own plate appearing in pix; however, if i post pix of other people's cars, i blurr their plates out, rather than trying to track everyone down to ask if they want their plates to appear online.

 

**** 'em. If they park their car on a public parking lot, then it's fair game. anyone and everyone can legally take pictures of it and post it online. Drive a car in public, and more people (and criminals) will see that car driving TO the car show than anyone ever will looking at said pictures online.

The concept is sound, but reality poses a much bleaker picture than simply fuzzing out some pictures on the intarweb.

 

It's one thing to take pictures at a car show for personal use but you start posting them online and others using them for profit and it can become a legal matter because of copyright issues. I know a guy on one of my forums that found his car advertising some springs on a website. He contacted the website, proved it was his car and gave them two choices. Pay for the picture or take it down. They paid him for the picture, like 500 dollars. You can sue for stuff like that. People just need to be careful of what they do on line or pay the consequences. Just because you are behind a computer screen, doesn't mean your are bullet proof.

Darn it, being in a general service technician program with all dudes (Which feels like paying $1000 dollars to be in a jail by the way) has caused my sense of humor to wither away like my hopes of finding that really hot girlfriend in college.

Well... lets try that post again. I want to stick my brake caliper over her rotors, or maybe use my wheel cylinders to push against her primary and secondary shoes, and then later we can adjust the star wheel in her brake drums so that my drums will fit over her brake assembly. Then maybe I can use my Vacula and stick my hose over her bleeding screw to take the air out of her system.

i know people who jack wheels all the time...simply by writing down the plate number of the car that has the wheels and then sumhow they get the address and get the wheels...but then again one of theyre friends works at the dmv and has access to all that ****...soo...thats why i block out mine...cuz i know if my friends can do it...some other people can do it
