New here!
Hey guys, I guess I just got enough posts to make this thread. My name is Dave and I live in NC. I frequent carolinanissans.com a lot and Crusher103 sent me to this site when I was asking him about the VQ30. Anyways, I love that engine and I am planning to swap one into my fiance's S13 coupe sometime in the next year. I have to say, I like this site a lot. I love seeing what you guys are doing with these cars. If you are in the Carolinas, check out carolinanissans.com afte the first of the year (down for major maintenance at the moment) but will be up soon. Hell, if you aren't in the Carolinas, still check us out. It is going through some changes to make it more user friendly and include some new setions to get us out of the whole 240SX bumrush that we had.
A little more about me; I am no expert, but I do know a thing or two about cars (mostly Nissans) and will try to offer as much advice as I can. I am also big onto figureing things out for myself and not relying on forums to get answers 100% (I do love a search button!). I am a straight DIY guy. I am also going to start doing wire tucks for harnesses (kind of have to with the harness that came with my car. Looks like a wire monster threw up in the engine bay!!) and may get Crusher to be my giunnea pig for Maximas/I30s.
Anywho, I plan on hanging out for a while and am going to learn a thing or two during my stay. There seems to be some very knowledgeable people on here. Who knows, I may pck up a fourth gen as a daily sometime (my favorite body style). Thanks.

How did you get your posts up? Lately I've seen new members posting really really useless stuff to bump their post count. I don't see why the admin can't create a forum for new people to intro themselves and get their post count going.
Anyways, welcome. When you say VQ30, do you mean VQ in general, or specifically Maxima's transversely mounted VQ?

Thanks guys. I did get my post count up quickly, but if you look, I was trying to help other members.
I am interested in the VQ in general, and I know that the VQ35 will work in both the FWD and RWD applications. I like the VQ30 more based off of availability to me. I still have a lot of research to do, so if anyone has some good starting points, let me know.
Thanks for the welcome again and I look forward to hearing from everyone!

Once again guys, I appreciate the welcome! I am still thinking of picking up a VQ30 because it is readily available in many local junkyards for REALLY good prices. I am still new to which ones are which, but I have noticed some Maximas have the iron block with mechanical timing (i.e. CAS) and some have no CAS and what I am thinking the timing is controlled electronically by the ECU. I still have more research to do, but for now I picked up a rebuilt head from a car at the junkyard (junkyard GOLD baby!!) and working out some suspension kinks and maybe over the summer or fall months start piecing together a swap. I am planning on running an OEM rebuild with a VQ30DE-T turbo kit. We'll see how things go!

I found the thread that has a guy doing one into a VQ30DET out of a Cedric into a S14. It is the second post down in the page I am posting. If you have time, read the whole thread, th OP has a REALLY nice VQ35 swap going into an S14.

Meh, not really near the 704 area. Charlotte is about a 3 hour drive. I have plenty of friends there though and do go down there every so often. Why do you ask?

As for the debt, just stay in school. With a decent degree, that debt will go away quickly and soon you'll be paying cash for your cars.

My Dad and Mother live in the area and i used to go to a school there, before i got kicked out. Many moons ago........still have memories of the place. They have a lake house in Lake Lure area, near rumbling bald. helluva name eh?

Sorry for the time away. I have been busier than a one legged man in an ***-kicking contest! Well, I picked up a Z33 6 spd for $50 and may be headed to the yard soon to get me an engine. I am going to send it to my boy in MD to get mounts mocked up and then start on the wiring! I want to do this and still maintain the factory sway bar location and shifter placement. Will keep you updated!!
