chipped key duplicate...
So I bought my 99 SE-L years back but it only came with one key. I know Nissan charges upwards of $100+ for a copy. So after shopping around, I found a local reputable locksmith that will copy my key if I bring my current key and vehicle with me for $75ea. or $100 for a pair. What do ya guys think? Should I keep looking around? Anybody get it done cheaper elsewhere?

Exactly! I know that this particular locksmith is reputable, and one of the only in the area to do this kind of work. My question is if the price seems reasonable.

I think its a deal. My local infiniti dealer tried to rape me in the A*S and try to charge me $100 for the key and another $80 for programming.Thats why i never buy from my local dealership.Im always having parts shipped from infiniti of scottsdale.

A month ago or so, I had a copy made at a local locksmith for $50. He did asked me to bring the car and my current key and was able to produce the key in a few minutes. He also refused to make an additional copy using a blank key I had purchased earlier from an online store. I think the deal he's offering you is a good one.

I think the whole NATS thing is a PITA.
Maybe is possible for him to clone your original key...and in doing that, he doenst need to program anything to the car because as far as the car can tell...both keys are the same.

Right, but I believe that the locksmith would want the vehicle present to ensure that the key is not stolen.

I used to work at Ace Hardware and I think it was around $40 for a nissan key.
They put the original in a computer and before they cut the key out they put the blank in the computer and copied it.
I would give you one for $25 but I quit =/

Thats exactly what my locksmith told me, he said he will charge me $35 per key and all I have to bring in is my original key, car not needed to be there. He didn't have any in stock at the moment so I couldn't get myself a copy, spend $126 at the dealership for 2 keys with programming, which I thought was a descent deal regardless.

I work at a Nissan dealership here in the Atlanta area and we have plenty of vehicles come in with aftermarket keys that are programmed by local locksmiths. It can be done and would beat paying $50 or so......
