"Nissan Competition Maxima" on Speedvision

It's a silver 5th gen, slammed in Touring car trim... anyone seen this car before? It's on Speedvision right now, and it's a factory effort.

This is the car, just found a picture:

It was only on there for a few minutes during an earlier segment but I did a double-take and caught it.

What's that piece that's hanging down? It's too far forward to be the bumper.

My opinion is a frame-strengthening brace of some sort... maybe axle-to-frame or something, who knows. I'm almost sure it's a brace though.

It might be an exhaust pipe.

I notice thathis exhaust routing is exiting towards the side. Pretty nice setup. I wonder what suspension mods he has.

Do the rear wheels look bigger (as in diameter) than the front, or am I seeing things?

uh yeah...I was wondering about that. Why in the heck are the rear wheels so much wider/bigger? I mean, I guess that will prevent the rear from swinging around too much, but......well maybe I am just odd, but it seems like that's pretty drastic.

I blew up the pic and the simply measured the wheel on the screen and they are both about the same size actually the front is a hair larger, but it is closer. Upon further study, it is my opinion that the car is in a sharp turn while breaking which is causing the slight dip in the front passenger side. With this happening the rearend has raised up ever so slightly, but since there is not much justification between the tire and wheel well it all looks like the tire. Only bigger. I rest my case.

I agree with phantom, those rear wheels just look larger because the front is much lower than the back because the car is under hard braking.

And the thing hanging down and to the side is its exhaust pipe.

Is this a fact? I didn't think the motorola cup allowed such drastic modifications to cars.

Where did you get that info? I would doubt that they would allow that drastic of a drivetrain modification.

I don't know that for sure...but looking at it I can tell pretty much that there 17 up front and 18 in the rear. I know the other max had 8"s up front and these rears are wider so i assume their x9. The only reason that would be needed is if it was RWD.

I took a crude measurement, put a piece of paper on the screen and measured both of them, the rear is a bit smaller. But that is to be expected since it is farther away. The rears could be wider to counter the car's tendancy to oversteer.

the vents are most likely for the brakes and not intake

Actually, I think that it is routed to cool the brakes. Most circuit race car drivers and builders are more concerned with keeping the brakes cool than adding more horsepower.

What channel is speed vision? And is there a re-run of the race. Or I could still see it?

hey guys, the max is not RWD because I've seen it in person. The car is a Motorola cup car that was built by Alta Nissan, a Toronto Nissan dealer and raced for 1 year but this year they have pulled out of racing because of a lack of funding by Nissan Canada. This is what the dealer had told me. The rules say that the cars are suppose to be almost stock but my dealer told me that this is not the case with this car as were other cars in the circuit.

If you click on my website and look under our past Toronto Maxima meets you will see pictures of the car with us Toronto guys posing infront of it.

i wonder if they're getting a lot of understeer on it now. yes, those are some big meats on it! even the fronts looked tucked in with those bulging fenders. the suspension is so low the exhaust had to be side mounted. pretty good for a maxima, but this past summer i saw the bigger badder porsche and corvette drivers getting po'ed at the max for holding them up and not giving way LOL.

Does anybody know the power output of the engine?

It needs some clear side markers.

Hey!

That's the car I had arranged to have @ a meet I organized .. Nathan's site has pix as does mine ... if u want more ... e-mail me & I'll send them 2 u ... it's got a completely stripped interior .... the suspension work is phenomenal ... I can't repeat what it is b/c it blew my mind ... sounds like an indy car ... but it's pretty slow ... never wins n e thing ...

They r only allowed 2 modify it using OEM parts .. not necessarily from the Maxima but all parts have to be Nissan ...
