hummm...

Humm...I got my car July of '99...found this board in August of '99 (then known as "The Tan Man"...but "tanman" got upset)...fell off about January, and back as "the_quorum" about a month or so ago. (what ever happened to Eben and some of the other guys that frequented the board back then?.

The Maxima had been the "realistic" car of my dreams (to obtain before age 25)since I got blown past one in my Civic...to see one pull past you on the highway would inspire most, I think. Next step, BMW 540 or Lexus GS400 by age 30...

I've been interested in Maximas since the 3rd Gen first came out. I started reading the predecessors to this board around December of 1997 I think, but I was just a lurker until this past summer.

I've been on the BBS ever since it started way back like 3 or 4 years ago. To put that into perspective, I was posting on the BBS before Andi Baratchi was. In case you don't remember for all you newbies here, Andi was the "Maxima guru" on the old school bbs. I remember posting on Evan You's BBS, and Justin's BBS.

Been interested in the Maxima ever since I found the bbs.

Been around a while... at least a year, don't know for sure.

I've been a fan of Maxima's ever since I started looking for a new car. Where else can you get:

4 doors
V6 power
Manual tranny
IRS (3rd gen. )
Cloth interior
Reasonable price
Great looking exterior (3rd gen only )

???????

I've been interested since my rents bought a 92 Max back at the end of 91. I started to become a fan around 96 when they gave me it. This was when i was up on Evans BBS under SLee. After that Max (which i still have) i went on to buying a DSM. A Ply Laser RS-T. Damn that thing was fast... too fast and got me into more trouble and the trans dropepd three times in less than 6 months. So i sold it for 3g's and picked up my current baby, the 99 Max back in May 99. I've been on tis bopard for a bit.. not as long as everyone here but long enough.

March 2000, ...

about 3 months before buying my Max.

Actually bought the car in part because of the board. I previously had an M3, and enjoyed the camaraderie of the BMWCCA and the Roundel (CCA magazine) almost as much as the car. Thought of buying a Miata, in part because of the active web group. Discovered this board, and decided owning a Max would not be quite as boring as I envisioned it, and have fallen in love with the car since I got it. (My wife likes it, too, and we may be a 2 Maxima family by the end of this month.)

I bought my 98se shortly after I got married with the wedding money I got. Back then I think the bbs was at the harvard site.
So I've been interested in the maxima for as long as I've been on the bbs.

I think I've been around about 4 years too, since Evan's board. I obviously don't post a lot though. I guess I can be referred to as an "Ancient Lurker".

Ever since my friend back in HS got a brand new 1991 Maxima SE 5-speed I've liked the car. When I was ready to buy a car, the Maxima was one of the only ones with a 6 cylinder engine and a 5-speed transmission that I could afford.

We got our '96 Max in ... ta-da ... 1996 and I've been hooked ever since. However, due to temporary financial constraints (buying a new house) when the '96 went off-lease we ended up with a base '99 Camry and life sucked. Once we got in the house, we ditched the Camry (after only 10 mos) and got our '00 Max on June 3rd (my b-day! ) of this year. That is when I started coming to Maxima.org more regularly.

Been a Max fan

since I got my first one in 1988 an 87SE 5sp white. I drove that until it became my commuter/winter beater when I got the 93SE 5sp gray. After I met the little old lady from Tampa who chose not to stop at the stop sign. i then chose to to purchase a 1997 SE 5sp. I just can't help but being loyal. My 87 was a trouble free car for 230K and it broke my heart to sell it but I just didn't need it anymore. by the way the 93 was totally demolished by her 84 coupe deville.

Funny......

I had no idea about modding or maximas really. I was "all about pathfinders". In fact...I was just a few steps away from getting a 95XE 4x4 Blue...real nice. But then I got sick(kinda long story) and after I got better It was the start of my 1st week of school. I kinda realized that the payments on the 16K pathfinder were gonna be high. SOooooo.....I determined I had around 10-12 to play with. I spotted this ruby max on the lot...the only 3rd gen...and drove it with my dad and Fred...the sales guy. Then we got back to the dealership and I said.."ok guys"..I wanna go drive alone. I did...and even did a WOT run. I came back and said...I'll take!

That was early September 98...I found the BBS's by the end of the month...I had a FSTB in November...I remember it was cold and rainy out.

Regetsonly about the actual purchase)

1. I really didn't negotiate with them.
2. The car had some minor cosmetic damage(and still does) that I didn't see cuz it was dark out.
3. Had I thought about it more. I would have gotten an SE 5sp for the same. Figure the 5sp would save me 500 or so but se's are generally more. I probably could have gotten a better max for the same price with a little hunting. Oh well

My next car may very well be a VQ se-5sp.....or...Sentra SE-R(in 2002 or so)

what is the topic again??

the first time I drove a maxima was in 1994 when I rented a 94 gxe. No ABS though.

then I started collecting those brochures for the then new 95 model. finally I decided to get one (the model year closing SEL) for myself last year. I chose my Maxima over the hot hot accord and the plain Jane camry. and so far, I still like my car.

will I get another one? that is the question.

Nissan needs to create something even more practical and fun to keep me with them. (hint: more hp)

too much ranting..

Re: any more ppl ?

Late 1996 with Evan's BBS. Then I caught a glimpse of Justin Gadladge's lowered Max and was completely amazed that a Maxima could look that good lowered and with 17's.

Guess I hung around long enough to become top dude -- the ol' Peter Principle at it again.

Actually, the Bluebird was the equivalent of our Altima (look like very different cars now). The Cefiro is the Maxima equivalent:

They have so many sedan variants over there -- 14 to be exact!! We get only 6 if you include Infinity.

My max history:....

When my family came to United States in 91 or so, my uncle had an 88 SE, and he picked us up from JFK airport I swear thats the truth. yup, first car I rode in USA was a Maxima, I remember the ride being so much smoother, quieter and faster then all other cars I ever sat in before. I was like 8 back then....
When I started saving for a car at 13, I always hoped I can get a 3rd gen, to me, it was the best looking car on the road at a somewhat realistic price at that time, and still is. Got my 93 SE in march, just wish I would have known better and gotten a 5spd.

Next car: 4th gen 5spd. hopefully next summer....

I got my MAX four years ago and quickly found Andi's old site. I can remember how surprised I was to find out that there was so much that could be done to a Maxima. Now, I've moved from one board to another depending on where the people were. Even with new CV boots, new rear window regulators, new VTC assembly, and new rack and pinion costs all under my belt, I still love my car more than ever. I hang out on the board a lot, but don't post unless I feel like I am going to say something that everyone else isn't already thinking.
Peace out,
