Drilled Rotor Direction
Drilled Rotor Direction
I know this has been asked a lot, but from searching I never found a real answer.
I recently did the 6th gen BBK: http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...reat-pics.html
These are mine:
Front of car is where the caliper is, so the way I have it now the hole on the lowest part of rotor (closest to hub) hits the pad first.
But then I saw this

From looking through other members' pics I have seen the rotors both ways.
Which way should it go?
I am getting a whirring noise when I brake so I'm wondering if I should switch them around.
I know the most important thing are the inner vanes - but these rotors have straight vanes.
I contacted the manufacturer (rotorpros) and they said the way I have it preserves pad life, and they could be mounted either way.
Would the other way reduce this whirring noise I'm hearing?

The cooling vanes are what determine the rotation, not the drilling.
Straight vanes and it can spin either way.
The noise your hearing is normal for a drilled or slotted rotor and will happen no matter which way they spin.
