I'm going to have the dealer either rebuild my engine and tranny soon, or buy an engine for 00-01 max's with auto transmission, or manual if it's easy for them to install.

What are you talking about?
121k is not a lot at all. Why are you going to rebuilt your engine and tranny? Are they both about to die? if there is nothing wrong with it, why are you going to fix it?
my 98 GXE has only 61k miles. But I've personally driven a few 4th gens with 150k plus miles... They felt nice and solid. The engine should last 200k + easy with basic maitenance.. the reason you don't see much with that much miles is because the cars are still relatively new 7 year old cars shouldn't usually have 150k + miles yet, unless you drive a lot. But look at that link clee posted.

LMAO = "Laughing my @ss off"
3K oil change is a waste of oil and money. Read the "Oil and ATF Analysis Spreadsheet" up top for more info.

What's LMAO. And what's so funny about 3k. You want a high milage engine to last, change the oil religiously.

Now I'm trying to de-program you.
You can't judge how "dirty" you oil is by looking at it. Does it look different when it's at 2K than it does at 3K?
I recently switched to Mobile 1 now and I've only gone about 1K. I have yet to send mine in for analysis. But I'm planning on sending it in at 7,500 miles.

Very Interesting. Have I fallen victim to a brainwashing? I'm still not fully convinced though. After about 3k, my oil is black as tar. Makes me nervous. I should sned my oil in for analysis. How often do you change your oil?

I've read it, AGAIN, maybe 4th time now... Just 1 thing, I don't think it was clear up there whether it matters if oil is Synthetic or not, that 3k intervals are unnecessary... I used regular Castrol GTX in this car (only 1 oil change this far). I've driven 4k on this oil already, just saturday I remembered that I "should have" (lol) changed oil 1k ago. Still didn't change it...
My father would like that Spread sheet a lot. He laughs at the 3k oil change intervals too. His 15 year old car which really doesn't see much road, has gone 5-7k without oil changes at times, if not more.. And yea, engine is fine. So, synthetic or no, matters not, correct?

3k Oil Change
If you don't use synthetic, then splurge for the $7.50 it'll cost for 4 qts of dino oil every 3k miles. Since dino oil is a fraction recovered from a still column, it has light and heavy components that act differently under high temps, as opposed to synthetic. Be nice to your engine!

Basically, it comes down to how you drive your car. Obviously, it's going to be different if someone drives his car everyday and makes 25 5 minute trips a day compared to a guy who only drives it once a week and makes a 3 hour drive once a week.
Which is why getting your oil analysis is a smart thing to do. Blackstone breaks it down for you and advises you on how often you should change your oil.
