Ok I am nearing completion of the computer project (but with major video sync problems that I feel may be unresolvable at this point.)

My next thought is installing night vision.. like put a night vision camera behind the grille, pipe the video back to a switch in the console, with output to the CVA-1005. Would you think me an ***?

Goggles are nowhere near as cool or elegant, IMHO

the first oncoming car will blind you if you're wearing goggles. My bro has a set of night vision goggles w/ the head harness.. pretty cool toy, but $$$$$ (paid by the Army LOL)

That would be sooooooo cool

The head unit would just make you look like the moron from the movie 3 Kings, standing out front of the tent in broad daylight wearing them!!!!

Depneding on the NIGHT VISION system that you get >>>>

it may not work to well. When I was in the Army I had 2 sets of Night Vision systems issued to me, one was the goggle type that straps on to your head, the other one was the one I can hook up to my M16 as a scope. Both of these must be used in almost COMPLETE darkness, what the system actually does is amplify all the available light from like the stars and moon, etc. Any lights from a flashlight, headlights, etc, will over power the system and it will shut off, of coure they don't show that in the movies or on TV. Plus the 2 systems that I had, had a small light like a laser that was invisible to the naked eye but was pointed straight to the object infront of you, this actually lights up target just a tiny bit.

Hey, lets just mount a couple M16's on the front.

That way, it doesn't matter what's in front of you!

That would be way cool (I would've killed for it a few times I was crawling through swamp fog on the way back from snowboarding). But, as mentioned, you'd have to do something to keep incoming headlights from drowning it out. Cadillac must've come up with some special image processing to take care of that. But night-vision to a CVA-1005 would be a quality hack, right up there with having a custom heads-up display.

a few things...

1) feeding the video into a CVA1000 (alpine monitor, i am assuming) would be really weird to look at while driving unless its mounted above your gauge cluster.

2) why not use an infra-red censor/camera instead. that way, it wont **** down or blind you with the light, you can see other cars (the motors are hot so they will show up) and you can see all the little animals and save them. (unless you are like some people i know and run them over for fun) ;-)

3) if anyone does this, yeah... sell me one, i will buy it.. i wanna be cool too :-)

if you got the Gen2 nite vision goggles, they were adapt to the increase in light and you would't be blinded (that much,)

but still. wearing a headset would look goofy. i mean. your perfiferal vision would suffer a bit too.

anyhoo. the indash nite vision would be hard also, because that camera too would be suseptible to incoming light.. and wouldn't see far enuf to see the whole road and surroundings, maybe just the immediate road infront of you...

i wont think that caddy system is all that great either. it's only like 3 inches before you. what about that mysterious biker in your blind spot or something.. :P

What happens when a rock/bird/small mammal hits it??????

What a potentially huge waste of money if something cracks the lense.

Neato idea though.
