Sound like a lot. LC-1 is $200 and all u need is a laptop to run the software. Wideband sensor itself is only $60 and a used lc-1 without the sensor is ~$120..

So can I just buy a Wideband 02 and hook it up to my laptop WITHOUT a reader? Or is the reader necessary?

Buddy of mine actually was rear-ended and his car was a total loss so I picked it up from him.

You can buy the wideband O2 sensor but you need to have something to monitor it with. You can monitor it on your laptop if you find a way to plug it into something that can interface w.your laptop (E-manage) and the appropriate harness.

Or you can have a gauge that'll show your AFR.

You would need the LC-1 cable at least. That's what I have. The wideband plugs directly into the lc-1 cable which then has a rs232 that hooks up to a laptop.

You sure its a wideband and not an ordinary sensor? Bosch 17014 Oxygen Sensor, OE Type Fitment.

If it is, thats a sweat deal.

Ebay has the kit for around 250$. The stand alone gauge on innovates site says 299$.

yes, about 10000% sure. Cross reference the numbers and you'll see. It's a OE VW sensor from the 1.8t. That's what pretty much all the wideband kits use...
Do you need the gauge?

Do I? thats a good question. I don't plan on mounting a gauge in my car. Unless I do something like The Wizard did on his steering column. But right now, i just want to set it and forget it.

Okay, so all i need is that Bosch O2 Sensor and a lc-1 cable for the laptop right? Where did you get your cable at? And the software, can that be obtained easily?

I bought a used cable in the CLASSIFIEDS from JIME. The software is available at the INNOVATE site

Dave, is the LC-1 a digital device or a just a gauge? I typed LC-1 in ebay and it shows just gauges. And the inovate site sell them around +250$...I need something that will record so i can map out my a/f ratios and tune it accordingly.

im still confused on the subject. I just want to be able to read it a couple times, set it with the vafc2, and forget it. I don't need/want a gauge in the car...or is it necessary?

If i can just do everything on the laptop, and spend the less money, thats the route and materials i want.

Thanks dave

Edit: Tell me if these are all i need.
o2

Cable to o2

and cable to PC
http://www.amazon.com/Innovate-Motor...0394857&sr=1-2

Or basically just this..

or with gauge

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Innov...motiveQ5fTools

Then you will need this to connect to a laptop http://www.amazon.com/Innovate-Motor...0394857&sr=1-2
If your laptop doesn't have a rs232 connector, most don't, you'll also need a rs-232-->usb
http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-2-0-TO-RS232...d=p3286.c0.m14

That should be it...

yea i saw that one, but i was skeptical if its legit innovate stuff. Thanks for your help. Ill be ordering as soon as i get reply from seller.

Question about gauge...why do people mount these in car if the computer can do all the work? Is it purely for aesthetic purposes?

pretty much. With the laptop you'll most likely have it sitting on the passenger seat. So if you wanna see your current AFR you'll have to keep glancing over. With the gauge you can just place it by the dash somewhere and not worry about it. Also you won't have to lug the laptop with you every time you need to check it and if something does happen all of a sudden, with the gauge you would know right then and there. With the laptop, if you don't have it with you and something happens, you wouldn't even know...

I retract my previous statements. After spending the last 2hrs on the INNOVATIVE forum and seeing how their support is nonexistent and how crap the products actually are, I suggest you get something else. Not to mention the fact that the LC-1, advertised as a "complete standalone wideband system" doesn't log RPM(I knew lc-1 had no rpm wire but come on, advertised as complete system when all it can do is show AFR?). I'll just use a camcorder and record VAFC rpm along side the AFR reading on my laptop.
Meh..........

lol i'm prolly still going to get it. And that was my plan all along, ask MophPro. (record rpms with camera)

What were you looking for in their support? And have you successfully tuned your vehicle using the said unit?

I wasn't looking for anything specific. I don't even remember why I went there. I started looking for wiring and set up threads but 80% of the threads there are about the unit either malfunctioning or not working at all. Still haven't tuned cause now I'm waiting for the z32 maf and the afpr to be installed...
