help the poor boy

in the last couple of weeks sometimes when i start my car i get a ticking sound, its really quick, about twice as fast as the 60 minutes stopwatch, then i jump it and then its cool, its usually when its cold, i left an interior light on a while ago and then this started happening but i its keeps happening every so often even when nothing was left on, anyway hope this one isn't expensive thank you in advance, by the by 89 SE 127,000

It's the lifters.

They will sometimes tick on startup until the oil reaches them. How long has it been since you changed you oil?

but there isn't any turning over, just ticking, my oil is at about 3000, it always works if i jump it so i think it has to due with the electrical system

Oh, I misunderstood.

It could be a problem with the battery. You can go to Autozone, or some auto store like that, and they can load test your battery. Sometimes draining a battery is just enough to kill it.
