2002 Oil drain location
2002 Oil drain location
I know...I posted this before, but need more detailed information as to the location of the drain plug and oil filter on the 3.5 L engine.
If you open the hood and stand directly over the passenger side tire, look down, you can see the white oil filter with Nissan written on it. However, underneath it is a black plastic piece which stretches towards the middle of the car. It would seem that this piece will block access to the filter from under the car. How does one get to the filter? ?
As I was under the car, I looked towards the engine (me being behind the passenger tire. Directly to the rear and slightly toward the center of the car is a black 'pan'. I believe this to be the oil pan. On the rear, there is a 'bolt' but I am not sure if this is the oil drain bolt.
Can someone enlighten me?

You have two choices with regard to the filter....you can either jack the car up...and reach up there to unscrew it from below.....or you can turn your wheel all the way to the right....remove the lower front inside splash guard in the wheel well..and access it that way...the second is more time consuming...but it makes acutally changing the filter easier.
As for the drain plug...you've got it...it's that lone bolt on the back of that black pan.....

Just remember if you have an automatic, the bigger black pan toward the driver side is the automatic tranny pan, the smaller one on the right is the oil pan.
