a rock hit my hood and windshield... will insurance cover this?

About a month ago I was driving to work in morderate traffic, I'm about to get off the highway and I hear a loud bang from in front of me and I see someting fly over the top of the car.

When I get to work I inspect the damage, there are 3 two inch gashes on the hood with some deformation and two 1" scratches on the windshield right in front of the steering wheel. I think I'm lucky that the rock was deflected by the hood and did not hit the windshield straight on, by the sound it made when it hit I think it had a good chance of breaking through the glass.

Now on to the question: the gashes in the hood are down to the metal and are now starting to rust, do you think my insurance will pay to fix this or should I give up on that idea and try the ooglie touch-up paint method?

That all depends on what kind of coverage you have and whether it would be cheaper to pay for a new paint job (hood) or pay your deductible.

yea, deductible and comprehensive insurance. My deductible is 500, so I don't think they would cover somehting like that... How much does it cost to paint a hood? A couple of weeks ago in DC, a tractor tailer ran over a big sheet of sheet metal paneling, got airborn and hit my windshield, right side of roof and driver door (top area) Scratches all the way. Good thing the metal was white and it's just paint burn... basically I can buff it out.

Which I still haven't gotten to yet because I don't have time..

You may be surprised how much it costs to paint car body panels. It may exceed the insurance deductible, so why not go get an estimate.

Thanks for the advice everyone,
I'll be calling up my insurance and getting an estimate to see how much all of this would cost.
