If you really want to talk about car problems:

Nissan 350z's burn oil, blow trannies and feather tires
Toyota Tundra's snap camshafts and crankshafts
the list goes on

no car is perfect

ehh rather not.
if it makes you feel any better i've owned 3 ford products too.
and yea those have given me plenty of problems too.
and left me stranded.

cougar xr7 3.8 s/c ball joint broke twice. tranny stated slipping headgasket started going too.
other two cars were sable ls with the 3.8 motors too.
tranny went out in one of em.
sub frame decided to give out on the other one.

they had other issues as well.

i just thought as a maxima member i would rather share my joy on this car.
out of all the cars the maxima took most of the beatings, then the acura legend. i never dogged the domestic cars.

i used to love gm's...hell still do...somewhat. lol.

Cool thing is the VG30E is mentioned on the arcade game Maximum Tune 2 (AKA Wangan Midnight). The guy with the white '85 300zx says "The VG engine is controlled by the latest computer". random fact. lol
That made me ROTFL!

I fell in love with Nissan v6's before I fell in love with the VQ. My first cool car (aka a non GM that wasn't a free hand me down) was a turbo Z31, that thing was a basketcase ratbox that had been slammed and banged more times then jenna jameson (But still looked great inside and out to!) I wouldn't be suprised if it was totalled close to as many times as it had owners, which I think was around 7, everything on it had been replaced, and for the most part from the wrong year or non-turbo. The rearend was blown, every bushing was shot, the turbo was junk, the motor was beat, the tranny would act up, and according to carfax in addition to all the accidents and owners it also had odometer fraud, which I wouldn't doubt because the mass title said salvage rebuilt AND odometer discrepency. But it was still fast, fun, and NEVER left me stranded.

404 failz

I didn't know the S/C on a XR7 had a ball joint? I thought that was on the control arm somewhere.

Yes the VG was and is a great or Very Good motor even when they started to put 4 valves and VTC for the VG30DE, but yea if you look how many VG's were used you have the VG30E, VG30I, VG30ET, VG30DETT VG33E, VG33ER, as for the cast iron block, made of high nickle content iron made a motor that would take just about anything you could throw at it, all you have to do to add a bunch power was open it up on the intake and exhaust. Hey it was good enough for this car

lol. i know but the cougar was free from my uncle.
the 94 sable was i think $100.
the body was mint had about 90k on it.
the motor and trans was new.
fully loaded.
the subframe rotted out so the rear of the engine was a bit down more.

the gtz i got...well the car looked fantastic.
it was blue with 16 inch broze colored rims.
it had *****. but it just kept giving me problems.

i used to hate imports with a passion.
it was the 1986 accord lx that got me into imports.
body was beat to death it sat in my friends uncle garage for about a year without being started.
$300 and a new (used)battery later she was up and running.
lost that one in an accident.
but had to get another accord.
i came accross a 89 se-i. moonroof, bose, leather interior (looked kinda crappy).
all it needed was a new distributor (junkyard) and again $300 she was mine.
this was the only import that kept giving me problems.
coil kept busting. so i bought a msd coil. fan timer kept screwing up (learned how to solder). cat clogged up.
there were other problems but the radiator busting convinced me to buy another car.

thats where the acura legend came in. i loved that car.
thats when i really got into imports.
i kinda acted stupid in that car.
countless of nuetral drops. then i made a stupid move by pouring seafoam (without draing the engine restore) into crankcase which blew out the engine.
replaced the engine.
and couple months later the trans started going out.

which led me to the grand am gt.
as weird as it may sound thats what i wanted my first car to be. but that turned out to be a nightmare.

which led me to the 92 maxima. i was trying to get a legend this lady was selling but she kept being an ***. my mom seen the maxima and suggested i should look into since it seems my dad hardly has any problems with his...

Your original question is ****, so I humored you anyway. Truth be told, there werent that many cars made before 1990 that had aluminum motors, simply because they could not properly design them using computer aided simulation software to where they would cool properly and not warp. Cast iron was used because it was cheap, and could take a lot of abuse, hence the reason aluminum diesels are just now being produced.

:rozt: This is all based on my opinion, I'm sorry I insulted your grandmothers Reatta. I like to turn, a 460 big block is not condusive to my passion.

The front of a Maxima is heavy enough, a iron block does not help=FAIL

yea the weight thing is not the best but hey having a bit heavier motor is better then having a unreliable one right and yea the 2nd gen had a whole 10lb (from what i could find but I think the spec list for the 2nd gen on here is off i'll have to look when I get home) on the 4th gen. As for my grandmother well they were both dead before I was born so they would have no way been able to own one.
