Installed Y-pipe, how much of an HP increase can expect?

I had my stillen intake un-installed cause i did not like the power loss at the low end but the y-pipe sounds cool. What the typical HP increase with the y-pipe?

thanks

15-20 hp I think. That's more of a realistic number. Of course, you will hear people say you should gain about 20-25hp, but that's wishful thinking.

Yup, that's why I put my oem pipe back on and now the car just goes without flooring it all the time. BUt I miss the top end acceleration. who knows, maybe I'll switch it back in the summer.

I think there is some low end as well. my trap speeds have been much better. either the car with the pipe matches my launch technique or or it gives a little more power on the low end.

Dyno charts of before and after the ypipe show power gains starting from 2000 rpms or lower. The gains are most prominant in the 3000-5000 rpm range (midrange), and actually taper off past that. Not much gain by 6000 or so. I'd consider the ypipe a midrange rpm gainer more than anything. There are no losses at ANY rpm with the ypipe...only gains. Hell, even at idle there are gains. My car would die at 550 rpm before the upgrade. After the ypipe, rpms could dip to 300 or so and the engine would pop back to life. Definitely a plus with a manual tranny.

I don't know if it's my imagination, but my car idles lower now than it did before. It's still a smooth idle, but much lower

Which mod provides more low end torque?

Pulleys maybe?

I've heard about the low end torque loss with the stillen intake so I went with a K&N drop-in filter instead. I will get the y-pipe for the midrange power gain but would like some low end power increase.

WTF ?

Y-Pipes decrease low end ?? What the heck. It seems 90% of mods take away precious low end. That's what makes a car fun. I thought 2.5" piping in your exhaust wasn't supposed to effect low end and increase mid-high's ??

Sheesh, I hope i'm right. Why pay outta your @ss for a mod that will take away your fun-power.

They DON"T decrease low end. Didn't you read Kev's reply? Or do you read half of the thread?

I don't think you lose on the low end either, the gains are just MUCH higher through middle of the power band. I have to watch how I accelerate in 1st gear to keep from spinning my heavy a$$ MOMO rims. Thats something I've never had to do.
But it did reduce my 1/4 mile from 15.7-16.0 to like 15.3-15.5, but also remember I have a heavier car(with 3/4 tank of gas) and heavy rims. So I would hope to be in the high 14's with my stock rims and an empty tank of gas.

If you need low end go for the Place Racing Cold Air intake, that should do it.

Well guys after having the y-pipe in for a couple weeks, i feel alittle increase in HP but i doesnt feel like a 15-25HP increase. I feels alot less than that but it gives the exhaust a nice growl. What about and underdrive pulley should that increase the HP as well?

thanks

Y-pipe gave me a significant gain. My trap speeds increased from 92.5s for me to 96.4s and .41 seconds was cut off my 1/4 mile. I have only a y-pipe.

The UDP is a source of much controversy, there is a clan which says it does nothing, and then there is a clan which swears it's worth the money. I'm with the latter group.

I am stock (performance wise) besides a popcharger. When I put it on, all I felt was a dissapointing decrease in off-the-line power, and felt no mid-top end power increase. In fact at times it doesnt feel as responsive (but maybe thats just me).

With a Y pipe will you actually be able to FEEL the difference besides seeing it on paper ? And i'm glad this wont lag me off the line like the stupid pop. It's oximoron. You pay for something that makes you slower.

Check for leaks dude, there is definitely a gain with a Y, all across the rev range.

I never raced my car before the pop charger, but I thought it felt a little snapier. It might just sound peppier, but I would think it would give more torque than decrease due to that it should create a little more back pressure and less of a vacuum in the intake. I'm probably wrong, but I'm not an engineer or physicist.

According to the FAQ's, the "15-20 HP gain" is from the combination of an aftermarket intake AND the Y-pipe. So, if the y-pipe is being used w.o/ a Pop or CAI, the gains are prolly smaller. I have a CAI, and am awaiting my WSP y-pipe for my 92SE. I'll give my thoughts once that's installed.

Yes, you will definitely feel the power increase from the ypipe. Make sure to reset your ECU after doing the upgrade, and realize that the ECU will take a few days to a week to fully optimize to the new airflow, so wait to pass judgement for a week after install. You will definitely feel the improvement, especially at ~3000-5000 rpms.

I think the intake complements the Y-pipe pretty well...open it up baby!

btw, at what speed does the intake lose its efffects. I've read that at higher-speeds the intake does not work to your advantage as much as teh stock airbox does.

Why do you have to reset your ecu? I didn't reset mine and there have been no codes yet

Well the stock box does have a scoop that allows some forced induction, I don't know how much, but it allows for some. I think that the cone was supposed to be good through the whole powerband

In order for the 15-20 hp gains at the wheels with a y-pipe you'll need and intake. My car gained ~20hp and 22Tq at the wheels with a CAI, Cattman {old School SS y-pipe}, and a 2.5 RT-Cat.
Any other aftermarket parts aren't really worth the money unless you like the look or sound. If you have a 95 or 96 max you have to get a JWT ECU. It adds alot of mid range power and the power past the peek doesn't fall off as fast.

I believe the 4th gen max are limited to ~185-~195 hp at the wheels because the intake manifold chokes the engine off at higher rpms. The next mod id try would be a 2k/2k1 manifold swap, that would probably make alot of extra power.

i believe anywhere from a 15-30 hp increase is bologna
a stock 4th gen stick runs what mid 15"s and say i put a CAI and Ypipe on my VG stick,i should be runnin with him figuratively speaking since i picked up "25 horsepower" ill put one of my nuts on it that you wont see anything better than 12@ wheels with both mods, but what do i really know,i have neither mod,so maybe i should talk after i get em

look in no way shape or form am i knockin the ypipe and after the intake that will be my next mod,but i dont expect my VG to all of the sudden have so much power and torque that when i gas it,i crack the back of my cranium on the headrest,i really have heard nothing but good things about it but never heard someone sayin they got this much power, all ive heard that the Ypipe w/ CAI provides noticbly increased throttle response and that it definitly is worth the 400 for both mods

Cattman post HP and torque results on their site:

http://www.cattman.com/images/products/dyno_1.jpg

http://www.cattman.com/images/products/dyno_2.jpg

There is no low end losses on their tests.
I would be interested to see if anyone can verify these results.

Yea,

Guys who say they feel loss of power off the line: I have talked to some people with the Y and they say there is no loss whatsoever or lag. Either you got 3" piping and lost pressure, or the loss just in your head you bishes
