Maxima or Altima?

Hey guys,

My girlfriend wants to buy a car befor the end of the year. She wants an Altima but I figured since it's pretty much the same price as the Maxima, she has two options. She didn't like the Camry. But anyways, she wants a fully-loaded 3.5SE (Auto). I was thinking Maxima SE. What would you guys pick? Also, what are the going rates for the Maxima and Altima. Would I be able to pick one up at cost? If anyone can help me out, I'm in the Los Angeles area. Thanks.

Regards,
Mike H.

Yeah, I would say Maxima as well (6-speed of course) but that's me. I think she's leaning towards the Altima which is cool with me. But since it's 1st gen, I'm a little worried about little knick-knacks that Nissan overlooked (or ignored). Also, what's the price mark-up on Altimas? I went to 2 dealers and they told me they were selling like hotcakes. Doubt it. Would I be able to get one at cost? Thanks again.

I'd hafta say

there's no substitute for the test drive. We're all Maxima owners so we're not that objective here. If it were me it'd be Maxima at invoice or nothing, no way to Altima. Most women hate having to go to the car dealer so for reliability I'd hafta say Camry SE 4-cyl with stick. 157 hp? Sure, but again, drive the cars before making a decision based on stats.

I love going to the dealerships and messing with them....the Nissan dealer around town knows me pretty well...I've bought 2 cars from them and am always going in for something...
I test drove the 02 V6 Altima last weekend....MAN what a fast car....I love the body styling...however I felt more comfortable with the interior of my maxima. The Alty handled very well and got up to 100 MPH very quickly hehehe, all in all I was almost thinking about trading in my maxima, but I don't think I will. I love that I have a 100K mile warranty and I'm pretty comfortable with my car.

A woman after our own hearts

A woman in our office turned in a lease on Wed. and she dreaded the whole routine of having the '99 inspected and then going to pick up the 2002.

Did you fill in the Altima test drive coupon? I still haven't gone to take a test drive, I don't really want to. Figure I'll do it one of these days though for the Ken Cole bag....

I forgot about that test drive coupon. I have it sitting somewhere at home. Looks like I'm gonna get a Kenneth Cole bag. Which one was the watch? BTW, what happened to the Palm M100 coupon for the I35? I got nothing in the mail. That sucks!

You are in LA? Join us sometime at the meets bro. As far as decision making. I say MAXIMA all the way, the Altima is nice. But it is no MAXIMA. I test drove all the new Nissan line up. And the 6 speed Max is by far the fastest in my books. The shifter was smooth and quick. The motor was sooo quite I couldnt hear if it was on or off. Accelerating hard it made hardly any noise. More than I can say for the Sentra SER Spec V that thing is already fart loud. I cant imagine with aftermarket exhaust. You gotta love the VQ either way you choose.

the new altima for 2002 handles better with its independfent suspension than the maxima's suspension.

Yeah, I'm in the valley. I keep on being unavailable whenever you guys have meets. Plus I don't have a Max, unless you can bare my C70 or my mom's bone stock Maxima. I'll be sure to make it to the next meet.
Anyways, my GF is going for auto so no 6-speed. Actually, I was checking out prices and the 2002 TL (regular, no nav) is in the same price range as the fully-loaded Altima. Now, she's leaning towards the TL. I personally think that's better. Either Maxima or TL for me. What do you think?

Maxima, you wont regret it...well if you get an auto you might on your quest for speed. The gauges on the new Altimas suck as well.
