Pictures of my heatshield and shiftlight are up on my website...
Re: what does that light do?
I don't know about his particular light. But most lights you can set. The Autometer shiflight uses "pills". These things you insert into the light to tell it when to light up. Not very programable. But there are others out there.. My friend has a two stage shift light. Two lights. So you set two rev points. So you can have the first light (green) come on telling you to get ready to shift.. and the second one.. (red) to tell you to shift. Thats the Razo shiftlight. Not as hardcore as the Autometer ones. The razo light is really small.

The heatshield actually just pops into place and fits sluggly in it's spot. I really didn't want to bolt it down because of the excessive movement of the engine might start scuffing the intake pipe and fray wires. Currently, there is 3 layers of electrical around all the edges of the shield to keep it from cutting anything.
The shiftlight is setup for optimal shifts. I've got the light programmed to come on at 5800 rpms (6100 rpms indicated on the tach). By the time I make the shift, I'm at an indicated 6300 rpms (I still shift at 6500 in 1st because it winds up so fast). The shiftlight I have is Turbohawk's homemade shiftlight for $35.
