Buying another Maxima

So I am buying another 5th gen but this time with a 6spd stick. I found a guy who is privately selling his Maxima but he wants to sell it through a dealer because he wants the tax break from buying a new car. Is this perfectly normal or is there something else he is hiding? I am assuming he just wants the tax break but I could be wrong. Last thing I want is to be hit with hidden fees from the dealer.

Something smells here!!

He wants to trade the car in and you buy it from the stealership?

If he really wanted to sell you that car he would have taken your $$ and ran for the hills already! Assuming this car is $5-8k, do you know how many stealerships would love to have you walk into there place!

Tax break my SES light, theres rarely ever any need for a middle man ESPECIALLY concerning a car, new or used!

I'm sure they seller doesn't car who buys the car after he's traded it in to the dealer.

No need for a middle man? Did you buy your last car out the factory door?

If its a good deal and you want it, I would try to bring the car to a trusty mechanic to take a look at the car. I hope you don't have to pay the processing fee and other dealer fee. But good luck.

The dealer isn't going to give anywhere near the price he would get if he sells it privately.
Sounds fishy, or hes a guy that just doesn't know what hes doing.

EDIT:
I think I figured it out, He brings in his maxima to be traded in, the dealer will give him pratically nothing for it, but he says he has a guy that will buy through the dealer. The dealer will then be a lot more forgiveable on the price of the new car and give more for the trade in.
Or hes friends the dealer.

The smart thing to do is sell it privately, then show up at the dealership the last day of the month, offer them quite a bit lower, then walk away, then they will give.
