OEM battery

In 5 months, my original Nissan battery will be 5yrs.
How long does an OEM battery usually last?
I have about 80k miles. Should I go ahead and change it right now
in stead of getting stuck somewhere down the line?

Have it load tested. If it passes by a decent margin, then don't worry about it.

FWIW back in ~'06 I swapped out the OEM battery in my '95, and only because it was leaking acid; it still started the car fine in single digit temps.

I replace the batteries in my cars every 5 years. They may last longer, but for what they cost it's cheap insurance and I have never been stranded because of a dead battery.

My new batteries ranged from 3 to over 6+ years. the average is usually 4 or 5. I usually keep a jumper battery with me, just it case. if you or you gf are accident prone, check out the black n decker ones where it has a failsafe if you reversed plugged your polarity.

it new ones from car places, never ever ever from dealers unless you want an used one! :-)

at 5 years my oem couldnt start the car if i used the battery while engine was off. and hesitated in the cold. i could have stretched it, but like being about to save gas listening to the radio.

went with the Exide Extreme. longest warranty i have ever seen and the highest ratings all around. http://extreme.exide.com/battery.aspx

had to call them directly to get some numbers and finally found one store 10 min away with one left. i think some regions sell them more but it was about $100.
