my 3rd gen is my first, theyre awesome cars but theyre hard to come by here. rarely will i see a 1st or 2nd gen, and 3rd gens are hard to find but young people now want them and of course all the older people who cant drive anymore send theirs to the junkyard so theres very few left. ive gotten many compliments and most of the time when i get gas or stop somewhere someone asks me about it (plus the guy who followed me home wanting to buy it on the spot)

IMO Nissan would have been smarter to make 2nd and 3rd gens RWD and 4th-7th gens RWD with the option of AWD, but i dont really need a drift car right now, understeer isnt a huge issue for me, plus i'm fine with building a FWD car to 300-350hp so i dont know why everyone has to b1tch about FWD

My 4th gen is my first car, have had it for a little over 3 years now. It'll probably be my last Maxima though, I couldn't see myself coughing up $35k for a FWD boat that doesn't come with an option for a manual.

I love my 4th gen though, hope to keep it until it rots out from underneath me.

This is our 3rd Max. My first was an '87 (my favorite)with a 5 spd and adjustable struts. Second one (02 SE Merlot) the wife bought, nice car till it was sandwiched. Third one, I bought Nov of '08, sterling mist '01 5 spd. What a large pile of ****. I've owned a total of 14 Nissans so far, this one is by far the biggest mistake.

As far as Nissan building a 2 door, it'll never happen. They wouldn't sell that many to justify building one. They have a coupe Altima with an available 3.5, it's not that hot of a seller.

my first was a 2000, the only reason i bought it was because i had a civic coupe and i got tired of taking a car seat in and out of it, but it was a good deal and i really like that its a sedan and a 5sp

3rd generation was my first but am looking at trading in on a late 2009 or current 2010. Does anyone know what or if there are any significant differences between the 09 and 10? Thanks

The 1996 GLE was my first maxima I bought in 1998. I din't do any mods until 2003 once it was payed for. Now, I also have a 2010 SVP with just a couple of mods here and there.

2008 Max was my first one. I traded it in for an 08 Trailblazer and missed the Max too much. So after a year I got an 2009 Max. I don't plan on leaving this baby anytime soon!!!

what would have been the point of all the Zs and Infinitis then? maxima has always been a predominately NE FWD seller.

I have the 2001 SE 20th Anniversary Edition and love it!!

Thinking about a new Maxima soon but have heard horror stories about the 2004 tranny. I'm not sure what the problem was (since Nissan did not admit there was a problem) - will continue to research until I'm comfortable "problem" did not extend to later model years.

yeah ive seen enough of the "stuck in 5th gear" threads in the 6th gen section to make me not want one

1st Maxima (see signature), however the list of Nissan/Infinity cars I've owned is longer... 79 280zx 2+2, 83 280zx(custom TT), 87 Sentra (1.6), and 98 Infiniti G20 (SR20DE, 5sp)
Given the chance, I'd buy another Nissan, and yeah Maxima is very high on the list of which one I'd want.
