I don't think HID should be used in a 9004 reflector, regardless of shielding and whatnot. The beam pattern is just terrible. The $400 could be better spent on a halogen projector unit and lamps from a junkyard car. If someone doesn't want to fab something like that (I don't) I personally wouldn't spend the money on HID. Instead I would buy a set of premium driving lights designed to throw light far down the road without blinding oncoming traffic.
