2010 Maxima vs 2010 Altima

Is there any reason I wd want an maxima over an Altima? The Altima performs jus as good, comes with V6 power AND manual transmission. I love my 4th gen but after the 95-99 model year, I cant make a case for the maxima over an altima, other than prestige.

I would take the new '10 3.5SR Altima over the Max any day.. 6MT, and IMO better looks (slightly smaller)

The Max is alright, but it's no 4DSC with that goofy CVT only business.

if you are more performance orientated and want a 6spd then the altima is the way to go, but no doubt the max is nice too. I can make a case for the 5th gen maxes over the altima, but that's where is stops. I will say that I really do like the 7th gens, and think they look amazing they are just big and not that fast especially for the hp numbers they have on paper....here is a good case for the altima:

The 10 Altima is better looking than the new Max.The Max is nice they need to change the look of the front of the car I think the grille looks to big for the car.

Unfortunately the 6spd manual was dropped with the "10" restyle, so you are stuck with that CVT in the 3.5 Alti as well.

News to me... That is tragic.
Does the coupe still come in 6MT? I know for sure at least the first years of the 3.5SE coupe came in 6 speed

they are pretty much the same power and drive ability wise to the point that I push it. im no race car driver but i drive it pretty hard. I just like the look of the Max better and there are better little options on the max than the alti. that s why I pick max.

Yeah unfortunately it was dropped for the coupe as well, you are right that the 08/09 coupe had it available although.

My experience is only in the used market, but last year when I picked up my 07 Max, there was an 08 3.5 Altima on the lot. Nicer color on the altima, both were loaded to the exact specs for the most part. Max had 19000, Altima had 12,000. So a difference of one year, and 7,000, and that was pretty much it.

The altima was consistently somewhere between $5000 and $5800 over the max on every negotiation point. It seemed odd to me, I have a feeling they were trying to get rid of the 07, so they had me baited, and pulled a fast one...but that's a whole other debate.

Besides that price difference, in the end, interior size was really what synched it for me. It is bigger in several ways. I actually found the interior of the 09 Max to be smaller, especially the back seat. Under the seats there was no toe-kick, so large feet wouldn't tuck under. That was a big deal for me, since my kids will be grown up by the time I get rid of this car. Not that i was actually going to buy an 09 new.

One thing I can't recall, on the altima was head clearance i the back seat. The back of the 07 Maxima was immense, and nothing else I tested gave that much room.

Don't pay attention to the standard specs for the coupe. If you go and build an altima coupe for yourself it gives you the option for the 6spd after you choose your exterior color.

That's right, coupe only.

Maxima is better in its' handling capabilities than the Altima, even one of the major car mags cited it in their mag saying "don't be fooled by the altima/maxima relationship, the Maxima drives so much better you'd never know the two were siblings if you drove them back to back.

The interior of the Maxima is far up the scale than the Altima as well.

I agree with both of these points.

If you have the money to drop on a 2010 Maxima, you can get yourself a decent G8 GT.

It's all in what the customer wants though.

Some may not want to buy a car whose brand doesn't exist anymore.

And some may want a more premium interior and a Nissan VQ engine.

All you're doing is making my first point... "it's all in what the customer wants."

Friend has an 09 Maxima with leather, I have an 08 Altima 2.5 SL. The materials quality in his car is much better than my Altima. Seats are more comfortable. It feels built to a higher standard.

His car is obviously much more powerful, but still feels like a much bigger car when you ride in it. Altima can be tossed around a helluva lot easier. That's the difference between 3-500 pounds. I also have a stiffer Stillen rear anti-roll bar and Racingline front strut bar. Stock vs stock the Maxima handles way better. No floaty highway feel, great around the twisties for fwd.

Def his driving style, but only getting 16mpg whereas I get 23-25 with a city/hwy.

If money was the factor, get the Altima hands down. One thing going against the Altima is the overall design is a bit dated even with the refresh. 5 years for this model. The previous generation was eliminated after the same time.

If I had the money I'd get a Maxima SV with the Sport Package and the Tech Package and wave bye bye to the Altima .

I just purchased a superblack 2010 Altima 2.5S. I love the way the new fascia and grill and hood look on the car. Also the Altima is soooo roomy, you have no idea until you sit down. I sit in it with the seat all the way back (I'm 6'3) and I fit perfectly, and my family in the back seat have plenty of leg room to play with. I went with the sports cloth interior, dark, and it is wonderful. And my mpg is just incredible... I love the Max, but the altima won my heart this time around.
