Roof rack question...

So i'm gettin a rack this weekend for my 1999 infiniti i30, and was told something I've never heard. The guy said that if i leave it on year round the rubber gaskets that keep water from leaking in can break and start to let water in.... Is this true? I will take the rack off when i wash the car, but other than that i was going to leave it on the whole time.

thanks!!
Jared

You mean the weather seal between the door and the body? It's fine.

eventually the seal will rot and crack but it should hold at least for few years with no problems

Had a rack on my 06 since I bought it last August and no problems yet. Probably too short a time to be a good test thought

You will be fine leaving it on. I sell roof racks at my store and have yet to hear of that problem. A guy I work with keeps his on all the time, almost 4 years he said. I just went an looked at all the seals and everything looks normal on his ride. just keep an eye on it an I dont see y it would be a problem!!

Unless you're using it every day, I can't see why you'd want to leave it on year round. It's a drag aerodynamically, and an eye sore. If you're only going to use it once in awhile, I'd take them. Not even thinking about seals and junk...
