Is it just me or is there a grinding noise at relatively slow speed

I bought a 2k2 maxima a month ago or so and I am getting the impression that the car is stuck at in low gear with some kind of grinding noise when driving at 40/50 mph. I used to have an accord 5 speed and the impression I have is tha the car is not at the right gear (like your are on 3rd and need to upshift to 4th gear). Has anybody felt the same thing?

I have a high pitched whine coming from the rear of the car when moving after being parked for a while. It only occurs at low speeds (10mph or less) and stops when I brake or speed up.
