Can't argue with that choice!
I'd definitely get the 6spd 540i over the
6spd CL-S! Have fun with the torque-monster!

The new maxima is a little to big for my liking, and I don't care if it doesn't sit 4 comfortably, then people won't want to drive with me... oh wait, that's already the case
The S-4 handles better than the Max
around the twisties, and you get maximum
torque before 2000 rpm. Can't go wrong
with this choice!

(V8, 540i, 6spd manual) = speeding ticket magnet!

Have fun and drive safely!

The maxima is a good car, again, I have had several. If you really want a TLS, do it. It may not be worth it as your car is just one year old, however I couldn't stand my 01 I30 any more, problem city and was tired of Nissan changing everying on a regualr basis, and almost felt like I had to! The maxima/i30 handles well on nice roads, but when it gets a bit bumpy, forget it! Depends on you. If your car has no issues, you may want to wait a year and see things like the Infiniti G35 (Skyline), what the new maxima will be yet again, the new Z (300Hp), the CL-s with 6spd, or what the 03 TL will have. However, Car and Driver figures 0-60 in under 6.3 seconds for the current TL-S is not bad, even if it is just a mag time.

To clear things up!

Maximas are fast yes. My cousin has 5spd SE Charcoal on Black leather. My cl-s passes him everytime we race. TL-S are fast too. They are in the same speed as cl-s but look better. One of the members just did track times and got a 14.2 run with his CL-S with running the 1/4 at 100mph ...headers, pulleys, sparkplugs and CAI. HMMMMMM...put that in a TL-S with body kit. Your SOLD, NICE CAR!

03 CL-S for you max lovers with 6spd comes out early spring. 6spd yes, and 290hp and more torque...let me clear that up! Same body style so you will never know who you'll be up against!

My car, not track tested but with headers, sparkplugs and CAI that I have too, LOOK OUT

here's proof 1/4 times with $1400 of mods LOL (on stock tires and rims)!

FYI:
Click me

theblue has done a 14.2x in his 5sp, 4th gen maxima with a Y-pipe, intake, and exhaust.

This is a car that comes with 190hp stock, so the new maxima with mods should be able to break into 13s with a good driver.

I am not doubting the max....however, it's seems like eveyone keeps debating on max vs cls, max vs tls...to me it's the driver.

I am just replying b/c Phatguy seems to be beating up on the cls and tls. Has he sat in one? Headers do make a HUGE difference. I have them and you get more punch at highway speeds not low-end. Auto for auto, maxima is not faster than a cls or tls. Stick maybe if you are racing a cls or tls stock. My cousin used to stick with me in his 2000SE stick but with my highend new mods, like phatguy said "I eat him for lunch and dinner." Remember we have auto-majics that break 14's easy, with less than $1500 mods we are high 13's low 14's good driver. RES = 13's easy! Can we say this spring with our 6spd we hit 0-60 in mid-high 5's and 1/4 13's?? HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM?

I agree with you. I've driven my friends CLS and DAMN! I loved the car. In my opinion it was much better than my maxima (4th gen). I especially love how the seat hugged my body, I felt more secure in the car. It felt like it had lots of power, and that was without the autostick, just normal gears.

But this whole thread is about trading a 2001 for a CL-s. That, I don't think is worth it. It's like trading sideways, or maybe slightly upwards, but since his car is so new I wouldn't bother.

I agree with you 100%. If he is trading sideways, go ahead and get a tl-s. I personally would wait for the new skyline or G35, better yet, if he just wants another fast car for the price of fully loaded max, why not wait for the 350z (unless you need the room).
