axle seals

Are seals a wear and tear part? the seal where my axle enters the tranny is leaking. Would this be considered in the power train warranty? what about CV joints? my boots are good but the joints pop under acceleration... my car has 56000 miles, and is 7 months out of warranty... opinions???

Hmmm, this is a tell tale sign of the infamous differential bearing failure case. Check this- get under the car and see if there is any play of the actual axle itself going into the transmission. If it jiggles, chances are you have a toasted differential bearing. But hopefully its just a seal.

Jiggle as well as up down, front back. Left and right should not move either, as the driver side is snap ringed in and the passenger side is bolted to a support housing.

Forgot to ask, do you got a stick?

Uh oh.... well so far you're exhibiting all the signs. around 60,000 miles, leaking axle seals. Does the axles have play? When 60K comes up, I seriously would drain the trans. oil and send it to blackstone labs or even just eye ball it to see if theres metal shard in there. If there is, you know exactly what the problem is.

For more info go to www.motorvate.ca as Frank also had a similar condition, (and me, and others)

If the car is out of warranty, and it is the bearings, I'd start thinking about how much you really like that particular car. It's really expensive to fix.

I hope they don't give me any flack over my mods. EEEK, I can see them telling me that my Rims and Rotors are the cause of this since my car has an aftermarket y pipe and Cat.
