234/45/17 is the correct size tire for the 17x8 rim on our cars.

Dare I say it... Your rim may be too BIG!

At first glance you will probably be risking alot of rim scratches and possibly tearing the bead off the rim (simulated blow out) under hard cornering.

I think they'll fit just fine. According to www.tirerack.com all the 225/45r17 tires I looked at have approved rim width ranges of 7" to 8.5" (not that any brands of the same size should differ anyway). Your 8" wide wheel fits within that range, so I don't see why they won't work. The tire may bulge out less than with 235/45, but beyond the risk of scraping (this depends a lot on the rim's design anyway) I don't know what else could could go wrong.

I'll second Bman, they will fit no problem

if you have a problem with the ride and noise of a low profile just spend the extra $$$ to buy a nicer tire Yokohama AVS dB all the way... or Bridgestone Potenza S-03

btw I have 235/35ZR on 19x8.5s so I wouldnt worry at all with 225s nizmolee has 225s on 18x8s it looks fine!
