What car did you drive before the maxima?

my first car back in Trinidad is a 1980 Datsun B310...after i moved to the states i got a 97 nissan altima.
...and now the MAX...wanted a 4th gen ever since i moved here.
In the future i would like...
another datsun b310, another 4th gen and a 5th gen max, g35, 240z, 300zx tt z32, 240sx(with an rb25 swap and rhd), skyline r33 gtr(or gts-t) 280zx turbo, datsun 1200 coupe, 350z(with twin turbo kit)....just to name a few.

89 Buick LeSabre
3800 ftw!!!
My grandpa bought it almost new, sold it to my dad, who sold it to me. I had it for about 2yrs when the motor locked up on me at ~242k miles, only a few months after I got ripped off by the tranny shop who just rebuilt the tranny. (almost $2k, Ray doesn't do written estimates and likes to add things)
I really wish I hadn't gotten attached to that car. I spent way too much money on repairs. Paint was older than the max and wasn't peeling at all. Headliner kept falling on my head. I donated her to one of the local vehicle charities after the engine quit.

The Evo is an awesome car, don't get me wrong, but it's a HORRIBLE daily driver. Imagine this ...
You'll need brakes about every 10-15K miles. They are ceramic pads with sport rotors so get ready to drop a grand. Oh and the pads eat the rotors and the rotors are thinner than normal, so you pretty much have to do pads and rotors EVERY TIME.
You'll need tires every 10-15K miles. The Yoko's that are on there run you about a grand per set. You can get cheaper ones but the car has so much power that you'll just slide a lot and it gets dangerous. Oh yeah, you'll need a second set of tires for winter if you live in snow covered areas like I do. Summer tires in the snow in a car with that much power = Death Trap.![laugh](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/laugh.gif)
You'll need a clutch every 15-20K miles. Yeah ... kiss another grand goodbye! The stock clutch doesn't hold up so skip the dealership and get an Exidy or something.
Funny note ... the dealership warranties anything on the car EXCEPT the clutch, brakes, and tires. I guess they know something we don't.![Wink](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
TICKETS! You'll get lots of tickets for the dumbest stuff. If there is a cop and he's going to pull someone out of a crowd ... it's you. Get used to it! I went for 8 years without a ticket, in the 4 years of owning an Evo, I got SEVEN tickets. About two of them were actually deserved. That giant wing puts you in the "ricer" category and you're going to get picked on by the law.
So in a nutshell, I brought home "Big Max" and got rid of the Evo. I loved that car but I was a little tired of it and wanted something else. I also wanted something a little more comfortable. The Evo is like riding in a cement mixer truck. It's an AMAZING car on the race track, and a ton of fun on the streets, but you'll pay for it. With the money I saved not having the maintenance, I'm about to buy a Z for a second card and a big nasty turbo (or maybe super) setup for it.

i know some people with Skylines, STI and such and they all say make your car look as stock as possible so you dont get picked on by the police
the only thing i knew with Evo's from the people that import the JDM ones here (EVO 1, EVO II, etc) is they all say to make sure it was cared for from the start else youre gonna have problems, never knew about the brakes and clutch
