What letter grade would you give for Maxima's Fuel Efficiency?

http://www.dailydemocrat.com/news/ci_15949363

I was an 'A' student back in school, but not so sure how my Maxima would score.

Given that 2010-11 Maxima is a v6 with gobs of power and CVT, yet still gets 22mpg or better daily driving, I'd say B-. To earn an 'A', Nissan should bring back a less power-robbing 6sp manual and throw in the vq25 from the Infiniti G. However, in the case of efficiency, I'm not sure how much better a 6MT is over CVT.

I get between 22-25mpg all the time.
not bad for a 20 year old car, with 260k on the clock (original engine).
so I would give it an A-

I get the same MPG (20 city-30 turnpike) in my 2000 I30 as my wife's 2010 4 cylinder 2.4 L honda CRV.

That gives the 3L VQ an A+ in my book!

Someone correct me. Maxima has never attained the following:
Low Emission Vehicle (LEV)
Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV)
Super-Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV)
Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV)

So why is that? What's wrong with Maxima and their emissions?

LOL! Just went to Kragen (O'Reilly) today, they have a 2-for-1 on Techron Concentrate Plus. Throw 'em both in your tank! Says it improves fuel efficiency. J/K. wow, 15?! Do you guys have emissions testings like we do here in California?

A- for mine. ~28 highway, but only 24 city. Not bad, but could be better. A32 needed a 6th gear or at the very least a taller 5th. No reason a motor with as much low-end torque as the VQ30 has to be running 3500-4k rpm on the highway.

Probably has something to do with burning more oil than BP in the gulf

I'm wondering why the OP posted a link about studying eating mushrooms.... think he wanted to post about this

http://www.epa.gov/fueleconomy/

But back on topic, I would give mine a D for now. It has a warped exhaust manifold and a bad injector which makes my car run bad every now and then.

My 96 I30T 5spd does about 27 with an evap CEL
my 98 I30T auto does about 27
My SC 97 Max 5spd averages about 22-23

My Camry averages 30mpg with the 4cyl on regular, and the Prius I manages 51mpg on a tank which is siiiiick hahaha mized driving city and LA freeways

Overall I'm very happy with my Maximas for the performance they give for being older cars they do pretty good. My sisters G35 coupe is lucky to average 21

My Q45 will average 19mpg mixed driving, and my QX4 does 18 if I'm lucky

btw I have a lot of cars... a lot

LOL. The benefits of being an admin is Ninja Editing. You are correct, the original link was the one you posted, but either .org got hacked, which wouldn't be the first time, or Admin messin around to see if anybody was paying attention.

Back on topic, actually, off topic, this thread totally wasn't going in the direction I intended it. Apparently carbon footprint is now the cool thing to talk about, and for some reason the government thought we should pay attention to it. So they proposed a method nearly everybody would understand: a grading system. I think it's a waste of time and gov't $ to come up with junk like this.
