maxima vs audi a4

i know were biased on the "Maxima Forum", but look at the new Audi A4 and compare it to the new Maxima

there around the same price, similar size, same weight but completely different cars so i want to know what you guys think

and give good reasons... not like "cuz i like it better"

Audi will cost more in the long term for reliability, especially if any modifications are done. I would get a used infinity over either model.

idk the a4 is pretty sick looking, and ya of course anything japanese wont be as reliable lol but im just saying what would you drive now, the maxima is faster going straight but i bet the audi would kill it in corners. and the audi is probly quieter and smoother.... idk

i do like the a4 but ill stay with the maxima.. has the same problem but with older models a year ago, either a 5.5th gen maxima or a 2002 a4 and end up with a 2008 jetta but now i end up with a 5th gen, lol.

Maxima all the way...Audis are wayyyy to expensive to fix; and you'd be fixing it often! My fiance had an 04 A4 and it gave us nothing but problems. Mostly electrical

PS...tune up = $1,100!

You're right. It'll be more reliable. German cars are terrible for reliability if you just mean sitting down in the morning and expecting it to work - buy a German car knowing that the electrical bits will each fail at least once.

As far as mechanical bits, though, the Germans know how to make a car. Put in the required work and money, and your German car will feel like new forever. A Japanese car will never let you down, but it will show its age. Japanese cars are designed for a culture of disposability. German cars are meant to be maintained and fixed, not trashed.

That said, I haven't seen many interesting new cars out of Deutschland in the last five to ten years; perhaps the E-Class, CLS, and S-Class, but nothing earth-shattering. Meanwhile, Asian and American manufacturers have been pumping out great cars for the last five or so years (Mustang, Genesis, Miata, CTS, Cube, Fiesta, etc).

And Audis do not interest me in the slightest. Not a single one. Yes, even that one.

2.0t is so much easier to tune. I might get the audi just cuz its awd and turbo. And that it has the option of coming in manual. New maxima is not bad though

It's not even a fair comparison.

AUDI - Quattro 4WD, double wishbone independant suspension, easily tunable
MAXIMA - FWD, independant suspension, tunable to some degree

The AUDI will outshine the Maxima in the twisties and in bad weather conditions.
Tuned, it will blow it away.

weird question because they are two different sized cars altogether.

But if you want an A4, consider getting the VW counterpart and saving a lot of money.

Get the turbo model rather than the V6 if you want to tune, the V6 is just about maxed out from the factory. I test drove a older (40k mile) 2001 5 speed 2.8 V6 Quattro A4, it was a nice little car but my 4th gen was a lot faster, stock for stock.

Best post in this thread.

I wouldn't ever even consider buying an Audi. With VW you're getting practically the same car without the massive price tag for maintenance and repairs.

There's no VW counterpart to an A4. Completely different platforms and everything.

Audi = Volkswagen = "people's car" , another words if you want something that everyone has it go ahead get one....
My cousin has 06 Passat 2.0T..... big car with a small engine, but wait they put a turbo on it... ahhh its pathetic.... everything inside looks cheap and the seats are horrible.... the only good think I can say for the A4 is that years ago back home I drove one with the 1.9TDI 5 speed if you want a super economical 45MPG car then it works other than that it is useless....
Love my Maxi the only car I can trade it for is a GTR

Nope. Completely different platforms.

A4 uses a longitudinal engine layout and resembles a RWD car under the hood. Actually, it's the same platform that underpins the Q5, A7, and A8 (and most likely the next A6).

Jetta and Golf/GTI/A3/TT share the same typically transverse FWD platform, and Passat is on a stretched version.

What you're asserting is basically the same as someone claiming that the Infiniti G is just a gussied-up Maxima.

Everyone I know with an Audi would NEVER buy another one. Enjoy routine $800 mechanic bills if you buy one or live with one that runs like sh*t.

I like the Maxima styling a whole lot better than an Audi. But, then again, I bought my first Maxima (2000 SE) from the driving experience and not its looks.

After being tech in a VW/Audi dealer ship I can say a few things about the Audi.

1 They are generally reliable.

2 North American VW/Adi are built in Brazil and mexico, and due to NAFTA regs, a certain percentage of the cars need to be hand assembled. The wire harnesses are hand built (in mexico/brazil) and are the most failure prone part of the car.

3 Parts are very expensive. $300 for a CV shaft.

4 Knowing waht I know I would buy a Maxima. Audis are very cool though, they look nice and run strong.
