Next engine for the Max?

Not sure if anyone ever posted anything like this or not but I am just curious. I have a friend who drives a 2010 Altima 2.5, his mom has a 2004 Altima SER 3.5 standard. So he knows Nissan fairly well, as do I. He usually jokes around and says he cannot wait for Nissan to put a v8 in the Maxima. I laughed at this but then considered what engine would next be put in the Maxima. They switched from the vq30 to the vq35 in 02. So it has been around 8 years since a new Maxima engine. Now I know the g35 Infiniti also ran on the vq35 and since then they have switched to the Nissan 370z motor the 3.7 Liter v6. (Not sure of the actually motor name on this one) So I was just wondering what everyone else thinks? Anyone know if Nissan is working on a 3.7 Liter V6 Maxima? Or a new motor? Or will they stick with the vq35 for a good while longer?

The VQ35 has undergone a lot of changes over the years. The 2002 VQ35 and 2009 VQ35 are nearly totally different.

That I do know, the hp alone has gone from 255hp the first year they introduced it, to 290hp now. Still, 330hp stock, and better gas mileage sounds even better to me.

I LIKE THAT THE NEW MAXIMAS HAVE THE CVT TRANNY. IT HELPS WITH GAS AND PERFORMANCE.

Fail. Dual clutch paddles would be cool, though $$. I like my 5mt enough.

sucky, hope that they will make a 6spd in the near future. Its embarrassing seeing the maxima out sold to the taurus and a hyundai. We need a MT maxima. That would be cool if they would go back to rwd. Thats just a dream though.

theyve really covered those bases already though, if you want a RWD coupe or sedan theres the G35 and G37 coupe and sedan, 4cyl/6cyl coupe or sedan theres the Altima, and theres the 6cyl Maxima

they should bring back 6spd's though

They should definitely add a 6MT and even go back to 5AT. No more CVTs! If you want gas mileage, there is the Altima. Maxima should be more performance oriented. OR have the base model Maxima come with CVT.

before they move to a v8 they would have to probably make it awd, but then it would compete with their own cars in different class.

Since the trend with vehicles seems to be f/i V6 engines, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a V8.

They were going to bring the 6MT back with a large 4-cyl diesel turbo. Obviously, those plans didn't work out.

Without the manual transmission, I won't be buying another Maxima. Simple as that.

The entire Infiniti lineup will get a small bump in power, and the Maxima will get closer or cross 300HP on the VQ. Sadly, with as much weight as the 7th gen has and no 6MT in sight, I won't be buying any new Maximas in the future. I feel it's time for RWD next or as a second car anyways.

Pretty sure direct injection is next for the 3.7, which would probably be a 20hp bump, and a couple MPG improvement. Probably another couple $grand, too.

Coincidentally to this conversation, my wife asked me tonight, "Why don't you buy this Infiniti new instead of used?"

That was an easy answer... I can think of 40,000 reasons.
