What Color do I paint my Gen 4
Ok so my car is in the body shop right now having major rust repair done. The work is for the most part done. The new rocker and quarter panel have been primed and are ready for paint but the owner of the shop hates to do the tri-coat paint that my gen 4 has. Doing the tri-coat is ten times harder and real pain to do. He told me that doing just about any other scheme of paint, be it two tone, blend into another color anything would be easier then doing this tri-coat. The owner said he can do a two coat paint that can look similar to the tri-coat but not perfect. That is why I was thinking about possible doing a different color because I am not that fond of having an off white color from the rest of the car. Keep in mind I am looking for any change to be very subtle. I want to keep the car stock looking and turn it into the ultimate sleeper. The body shop owner can do the tri-coat but I might save some money and time if I go with a dual coat. My signature picture is the color of my car. It is a pearl white with metallic flake. Any ideas let me know. The photos of the car can also be view in my gallery "my maxima past and present" to see the work in the body shop as well as stock color.

I know I think i will be going back to the stock grill when the car is all finished. The only problem I have with black is it will show the swirl marks very easily. My 07 TL is black and even after I clay bar, paint clean, polish, and wax the swirl marks still show.

How about white with a new pearl clear? You can get a powder additive that will mix in with the clear and produce a pearl coat. It's not a tri-coat like Nissan uses.
That's what I'm getting done with my Max in the spring. I'm having blue pearl mixed in, and the car re-cleared.

If either you guys run into photos of something like that or have any post them here. It does not have to be the same color scheme as am looking but something like it so I can get an idea of how it might look. Thanks for all the feedback from everybody

I don't have any pictures on a car, but I can snap a few pics of my buddy's chip sheet that shows the different kinds of pearl coats, etc. How well the pearl will show in the pic...eh...Idk. It's a craps shoot. But I can give it a try.

The car will be worth more $$$ if you keep the three stage color. It will look better if the job is done right too. Yes it's hard to match, he needs to blend in correctly too.
Had a body shop told me they don't like doing three stage paint and my car was originally a three stage color I would have immediately gone to another shop.

Well, looking at the post dates, it might be a little late to make suggestions...
But, have you considered a Chip Foose-like two-tone? Spray the bottom section black, or something, and leave the top above the repairs the factory.

I have not painted the car yet. My max awaits the warmer weather and when my body guy has time in his shop to get it in. I think I might go with the factory color which is a arctic white. It hides the swirls marks very well. No offense to DAJOHNGUY about the metallic black. My TL is Nighthawk black and it shows so many swirls marks. I thought about two tone but am not sure if I want to dress the car up or just keep it bone stock looking. I am trying to achieve an ultra sleeper. Maybe if I got the stillen lip kit then i might go with a two tone and paint the lip kit. Worst comes to worst if I don't like it I can just take the lip kit off.

OP: Sorry I never got back to you on that clearcoat. I might be getting that blue pearl clear done sooner than expected, as a result of a little, erm...run-in with Bambi I had. If I get it done before you take your car in to get it painted, I'll definitely snap you some shots.

That comment wasn't aimed directly at you. It's just that the general postings in this thread make it seem like nobody understands that painting a car a custom color is a long, difficult process. Everyone's throwing out these ultra-expensive custom paint ideas instead of just suggesting what could look good for a normal, daily-driven car.

Thanks for posting the photo. At this point I just want to keep the car the stock color. I don't want to attract attention to my car wither it be the cops or car thieves. With the tint and wheels it adds a subtle performance look. The exhaust and cold air intake back up that up. Under load people turn their head and think "wow didn't expect that" or "Stupid jerk scared my kitty". But under normal driving conditions it looks pretty much like every other car and that is the way I want to keep it.
