I nee a 6th gear!!

4th gen 3.5 swap. 5 speed trans.
redlined 5th gear with plenty more to go at id say abt 147mph.( at a closed course)
anyone know if the 6 speed trans is any good for this swap on low end? i mean at least ill have another gear to go for top end but hows the lower gears?
anyone got this on their 4th gen and wanna share likes and dislikes?

I've got an 05 6 speed. It's geared with the ratios very close together. A lot of the time I take off in 1st, shift to 3rd and then go into 6th. In 6th gear at 70 mph it runs 2,500 rpm. I wish it was geared a little taller and ran about 2,200 or less on the interstate to help mpg. Here's an idea *roughly* of what speed each gear will get you at redline 6,600 rpm.

1st 38mph
2nd 62mph
3rd 90mph
4th 115mph
5th 145mph
6th 185mph <---theoretically

Of course that is theoretically on unloaded tires, and tires vary, even if the same size. I have a spreadsheet if you're interested.

It will let you dial in tire sizes and new rev limits etc.

Also,

And these are the A33B ratios:

A little further analysis shows that

Here's some interesting data I got.

MPH @ at 6500 redline

--------5A---5M----6M----4A
1st ----44----40-----41----47
2nd ---67----70-----67----85
3rd ---103--102-----94---132
4th----152--137----124---190
5th----201--164----164
6th-------------------208

RPM @ 75 mph cruising

4A--------2562
5A--------2420
5M--------2961
6M--------2340
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Where did this info come from exactly? There's no way my 6 speed will hit those speeds in any of those gears. Also at 75mph I'm running over 2,600 rpm and not the 2340 like the chart above says. Did they make different final drive ratios in the 6 speeds? It's like my car has a numerically higher ratio than the above chart.

Spreadsheet using OEM tire sizes and OEM gear ratios. Also, our tachs are calibrated by kindergartners, and our speedometers will be off with respect to the tires being used (irrelevant unless using a secondary MPH indicator other than the speedo). So those wont be right on, there's a lot of room for error.

I do actually have a 6MT dyno showing very close numbers to those using Dynojet software on top of 3rd and I believe 4th.

Just an FYI, the speed calculator that Nealoc provided is nearly dead on to mine re: the 5MT gears.

Instead of me trying to do all the work, why not go here: http://www.vibratesoftware.com/html_...nsmissions.htm

I'll be 6mt soon (taking the car apart Sunday)... But i'll be using 4.1 gear ratios (04+ 6mt), I'll report results in the 4g section.

but it does seem that the 2.5 model has the same 6sp as the 3.5 but with taller gearing, both are RS6F52A

After an hour of digging around I figured out why our rpm/speeds don't match up. In 6 speed Maximas,

02-03 final drive is 3.812
04-06 final drive is 4.133

All of the gear ratios are the same from 02-06
1st 3.153
2nd 1.944
3rd 1.392
4th 1.055
5th 0.809
6th 0.630

Anybody with an 02-03 wanna trade me for my 05? I'd love to have to be able to cruise on the interstate at 400 less rpm.

Keep in mind the tire size (OEM) changed from 03-04, so the difference might lie in there.

Those are the gear ratios inside the transmission. I think the tires got bigger in 04, right? If so, then 04's and up would run lower rpm if given the same final drive ratio.
