Review:
If you own a 4AT Maxima you do envy all the people with the 6spd Maxima. This will help curve that craving quite a bit. For me, I got an automatic because at the time I moved from overseas and back home with my Wife who can not drive a manual and being that she is Japanese, she drives on the other side of the street and car. It was the most logical decision for me to get a quick, fun, 4 door automatic sedan as we also have a daughter. All that said, I started off with no mods loved the car. The itch came, went about things all wrong but eventually got to where I am today thanks to this forum. Upon first driving a stock Maxima, its very refined, steering isn't tight but it works very well (minus the turn radius). Shifting very smooth and slow on the stock transmission, and the gearing and downshift speeds stink. Well after getting this shiftkit installed I must say I have a renewed love for my car and will keep my transmission like this until I beat it up enough that I need a 6spd or until I'm done with the car.
First to second under WOT = very sport, quick, and precise shift.
First to second under normal = depends where you have the rpms/speed/throttle, but it can be quite a hard almost like a "clunk" there won't be noise but it will shift fast and be felt very easily. Now a person who is riding in the car the first time not knowing what you've done will think it's "harsh" or that your transmission is going out. I have yet to take my 60 year old Mom for a ride, but I'm going to get her take on it and add that as well! The guy who installed all this for me even said how much he loves this crisp and hard shift.
Second to third WOT = there is almost no lag and keeps you in your power band so well, there is much to it but this.
Second to third normal = fairly smooth and no real "clunk" that is noticeable and quite nice on at freeway speeds.
Third to fourth...well I haven't gone WOT at this speed, but under normal driving it's not bad at all. Also OD is not effected.
Edge Racing and the modification to the Torque Converter is NOT needed unless you go to the track, it costs about $450 shipped and really only gives you a 3k stall, Andre that guy who does these rattled off other things it can improve, but with a new tranny, shift kit and this installed EVERY thing was different.
The 3k stall however is flipping awesome, you will go through tires quick if you love to test it all the time =P. With subframe collars, tq link, and all those other mods, keeping the wheels on the ground and straight is quite easy. This stall puts us right in at a good hp/tq range and really will help 60ft times.
All in all, if you have to replace your tranny DO THE SHIFT KIT. If you plan on taking it to the track do the TC.
On to pics and stuff...

Review coming next week
Along with pics and review of Edge Racing Custom Torque Converter.
The install will take roughly 3-4 hours. Can be done at home, but a pain on the back. Some drilling required. VERY thorough instructions!
**The greenish rings are not required, and unless you're getting your tranny rebuilt you won't need to install them. If you do a tranny swap don't bother either.

In for TC install.
Also in for comparison to this isntall: http://forums.maxima.org/all-motor/6...t-install.html
Alpha vs Bravo in the RE4F04A/B. Difference is between the 4th gen and 5th gen.

Wow, that's a pretty complex shift kit. The ones I put in my TH-350 GM automatics had a gasket, a spring or two and a new separator plate that you did or didn't drill a hole in depending on whether you wanted it to be heavy duty or street/strip. Took out 3 of the 4 check ***** too. Thats it.
Something like that, I'd find a competent transmission shop that regularly installed shift kits to do the work.

A couple questions sorry if I sound like a nub?
1 what's the benefit of putting in this tq converter or shift kit
2 what is meant by a 3k stall?
3how much faster does this make our cars?
4 how much is this?
5 is install as easy as taking old inverter of and installing new one?

2) foot on the brake and all the way to the floor on the gas, the rpms stop at 3k- better launch
3) not much just firmer shifts maybe a tenth or two
5) converter? yes. shift kit not so much
a shift kit will aso legthin the life of your trans and i highly recomend it

"It's not a "normal" transmission anymore, it kicks down hard & puts you right in the power band.
By the way, the torque converter completes the package. From a dead stop, the trans stalls at 3K, let off the brakes & wheel spin like mad, then I backed off and didn't want to roast your winter tires.
I don't remember VQ's in a Maxima being this fast, must all be in the transmission! I hope you like it."
Direct message from the owner of the shop I took my car to. Devoted Autoworks....He is dropping the car off here tomorrow...needless to say I'm anxious...
