Yes, it can be done. I think I've done it before. But probably more because of speedo error. I was racing an old starion. I could have swore I saw 82mph before I shifted.

It only goes up too 67MPH +momentum so maybe,

70MPH definately not 80MPH unless you raised your revlimeter to about 7.5-8.0 RPM's.

Re: It only goes up too 67MPH +momentum so maybe,

I think he is talking auto. I sure hope he isn't talking about a 5-speed. 80 in 2nd for a 5-speed is crazy. Not as far fetched for an auto. Considering the manual states the top of 1st is 45, 2nd 75. So if you shift late. You may be able to come close to 80.

from C&D road test

There 97se auto hit these speeds in each gear, remember C&D never go pasted the redline. The auto maxima reached 47, 84, 127 (out of 135), 127 (195 topspeed in 4th gear at redline). Meanwhile the 5spd maxima hit 38, 65, 99, 127, 158. This could be why the auto's on average are so much slower than 5spds. Not only is it because of the power loss but the difference in gearing. If you look at the A4 F-bodies and mustangs, the difference in ET's are like 1-2 secs tops. Where as our cars are like 4-7 tenths. The only way to combat this is to run smaller diameter tires.
