All i have is a generic ELM327 OBD2 bluetooth device on my 2007. All cars after 1996 should be OBD2 ready. Be sure to choose a US vendor for fastest shipping. It will take 2+ weeks if you order from overseas.

Thanks. What gets me upset is if I buy the cheap part then find out it somehow does not work well and I end up buying the more expensive plx kiwi or obdlink. I seen a YouTube video point out those cheap units are slower than the more expensive ones.

Hey, I have been doing research for like a month now and could not find anyone anywhere saying for sure weather the torque app with a Bluetooth adapter would work on a 2001 maxima. I finally took the plunge and ordered the kiwi Bluetooth adapter. IT WORKS. I have a 2001 Maxima 20th AE 5sp. It works pretty well with reading sensors and whatnot. I actually bought it to have a MPG gauge in my car. However I know it has been reading like 5 mpg high, but it has the ability to adjust it which I am waiting to do after I have filled up a couple times. The readings for the various sensors are actually pretty quick. However I don't think it will pull codes for me. I don't have any lights on but when i tell it to pull codes it pretends like it is doing something then displays nothing. I did it also on our durango and even though there were no codes it still at least said there were no fault codes. So I just wanted to give a definitive answer that Torque + Kiwi Bluetooth works really well on at least one 2001 maxima.

I will be doing some research to find something like this that works on my 97' SE 5speed. I'd love to have something like this hooked up to my 7" touch screen.

I've used other obd monitoring with my laptop on my 97 gxe 5sp. It works, just refreshes like 1Hz.

Btw, anybody selling their BT reader? I've guy a buyer if you're selling.

Well the Torque android app on my Samsung Captive reports the OBD2 adapter is faulty. The status page shows faults and it plainly says it should stay at 0.

Odly enough, the OBDII is a standard that differs in its implementation across different manufacturers.

some car manufacturers purposely leave off pins on the connector to force you to go to the dealerships.

one example is the triumph motorbike. It leaves off the pin5(ground apparently) from the 16 pin connector and this means that the unit functions with basic info but not the codes.

So please dont be too quick to blame these devices, they are trying to compensate for the wide variety of vehicle manufacturers that all have their take on what constitutes OBD.

there are sites on the internet that list the pin connections for the different protocols of OBD adopted by different manufacturers..they mention ford and a few others...

The torque application will scan the most prominent protocols to see what your connection uses, of course if the car manufacturer would prefer you see them, then they can be tricky and use their own 'standard' or version of OBD.

Well it's official, Torque won't read my 97 GXE.

It works flawlessly on the G8, even cleared a trouble code with no issue (all thru Bluetooth). I love this app and it does everything and more than $100 applications do.

Just got an ELM 1.5 adapter, and a copy of torque. For those having trouble connecting, first you must pair the device, then load torque and select the device in the bluetooth menu. It worked for me, was able to clear codes and use all of the standard readouts. I haven't had time to test in detail, but everything seems to work very well on my 99 max.
