i think they are trying to point out that some cars, like the I30/35 and the Maxima, are essentially the same car with different badges, and more accessories. I dont know where they were going with the point of the article, i think they are just trying to inform people that an infinity is nothing more than a glorified nissan with electronic-everything and a higher price tag

my .02

I have test driven the 02 max and the i35.. maxima doesnt even come closer to infiniti in luxury. To me the price difference is worth it. I dont know why ppl think that infiniti is not THAT luxury. compare typeS TL to infiniti? inifiniti blows type S away. oh well just my 0.02

how well equipped was the max you drove? it gets to a point where you cant really get more luxurious. a fully loaded maxima is pretty nice. the options are the same. maxima SE comes with a spoiler, whereas its $500 extra on an i35. the "cold weather package" (aka Meridian Edition)of the i35 is $700 and $499 for maxima granted the i35 has heated rear seats as well. navigation is the same price. you pay $1700 to get the "sport package" for the infiniti which includes a leather wrapped steering wheel and shift ****(comes with the maxima anyway)plus some rims but we can all get rims for our maximas if we want them. would i be wrong to assume nissan and infiniti use the same leather? the only things that the i35 has that the would be nice on the max is the heater rear seats and the sunshade on the back window. if you dont get those you have no reason to chose the i35 over the maxima. the price difference isnt really that much but the maxima is definitely a bit cheaper for the EXACT same car in my opinion. forgetting the luxury part of it, the only reason i think anyone should get an i35 over a maxima is because they like the way the outside looks better. thats reasonable. the inside is the same to me.

The I35 also comes with some wizbang thingy called Vehicle Dynamic Control system.

Apparently, the system does some of what the Maxima's Traction Control System (TCS) does, plus more. It monitors lateral G forces and applies brakes to individual wheels and/or adjusts engine output to help correct understeer or oversteer.

Not a strong selling point. But, something the Maxima doesn't have as an option.

True.

Dont forget the Toy Camry & Lex ES300.

Toyota makes Lexus just like Nissan makes Infiniti.

After driving 3 cars (I35, max 6speed and acura TL-S), my opinion was simple. If you are looking for serious speed and power then max is the way to go. IF you want luxury and auto.. infiniti rules.. and if u are a moron then TL-s is esp. BUILT for you. I dont know why, but the outside looks of i35 are just PERFECT and max is kinda ugly TO ME ONLY. ppl might think different.

They compared Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis but forgot to include Linclon Towncar. BTW for everyone's info...before I got my car I went to look at leasing a new Maxima and found out that the Infiniti, with similar features to the Maxima (actually the I-30 had traction control and the Max didn't), was $20 cheaper a month. Infiniti was running some kind of special and Nissan wasn't. The I-30 isn't always more money (at least lease wise!) Either way I thought it was too much money for the car and decided to buy a used one instead.

I've never driven the I35 or TL-S, but I can say that when I drove both the TL and I30t at Edmunds live, the TL was very impressive. It felt fast, refined, and handled confidently. The I30t was a bit more rough around the edges, but handled a bit better. The I30t also felt much slower than the Acura. I'm not sure how the TL-S and I35 compare in terms of engine performance, but my guess is that the TL-S probably outhandles the I35, or at least feels more comfortable around the bends with its IRS.

i think the TT is close to the New Beetle.. I mean, it looks way better, and is faster,

but its a two door, its tiny, and the general shape is the same... and it uses the same platform.

I30 vs Max

It comes down to looks. Both are great cars and have the same "DNA". When it came down to replacing my 95 Max, I just liked how the 2000 I30 looked over the Max. (The I30 is an overseas Max anyway). There is now enough difference in looks to make a difference. Anyway, two years with my Silver I30, Black Leather and I couldn't be happier!

Next step, try to convince my wife that her 96 Accord should be replaced by the G35 next year! Wish me luck!
