modding and shift points

does modding ones car, without modifying the existing ecu or tcm, change the shift points? the reason i ask is, yesterday my friend who has a stock 99 SE came over and we were messing around. his 2nd gear topped out at about 76mph after which it hit the rev limiter. but on my car, a 96 GLE tops out in 2nd at 84mph. were the gear ratios changed in those years or are the mods causing a difference? btw we are both autos. i did a search and found this in the sticky...

Autos
1st 2.785
2nd 1.545
3rd 1.000
4th 0.694
final 3.789

so shouldnt they be shifting at the same time?

Has he ever pulled an error code from his ECU? A knock sensor malfunction eill leave the car very drivable, but a lot of top end power is lost.

Well, my car shifts at about 6400 with 17s on and at about 6200 with 15s on, so maybe they do...

Those cars never really reach thier full potential in the powerband because they're geared for 0-60 times and worthless crap like that.

Could be slight differences in the ECU as well. For instance, my 1994 Honda civic EX had a 7200 RPM redline, and the rev limiter was at 7400. However my 95 Civic EX, thats the exact same motor, had a 7800 rev limiter, but still the same 7200 redline. Go figure.

Your mods did not change your gearing if that's what you are wondering.
