Shift light settings? What RPM?

I have a 2001 Maxima, and you know my power band is all the way up to 6400. Now what should I set my new Shift light too? 6200? Trying to figure this out, and need to figure out where to connect it on my 2k1!! Argg.....

Yes, 6200 sounds good so u have some room for error.

BTW, my '95 automagic REDLINES at 6600rpm. Just thought I'd let you know

Well it depends on how fast you shift? I think trial and error would be your best bet to optimize. Hopefully it isn't too hard to adjust the setting? Do you want the clutch to be disengaged at exactly 6400? Just curious why not a little higher?

Since you've got a 2001, you should set your light to 6300rpms. The 2000-2001 requires a near redline shift in every gear to get maximum performance. Starting your shift at 6300 should put you close 6400-6500rpms at engagement if you can shift quick. You'll be amazed at how much the tach is off in 1st and 2nd. 3rds not too bad and 4th is pretty close. It all has to do with how fast the fast wire in spinning. The lower the gear, the more it will be off. I've got my light set at 6100rpms in my 96. 1st winds up so fast that when the light goes off, the tach needle is already swinging to 6500. This is how it goess in my car:

1-2, light goes off, but the tach is already close to 6500, shift (probably close to 6500-6600 at engagement which is ideal)

2-3, light goes off, but the tach is at 6300, shift (probably close to 6200rpms at engagement which is ideal)

3-4, light goes off at 6100. Shift quick. Ideal.

Goodluck and hopefully you'll see that 14 second timeslip soon.

Connect the light to the gray wire with red strip, that's a coil pack wire. The light for some reason doesn't like the rpm signal wire so forget that. I have mine set at 6,000 rpms. Also set the light to the last setting, the one that doesn't specify engine type. The light hast a 300 rpm delay when full throttle is applied. It will go off at 6300 rpms and that gives you about 6400 rpms to grab the stick and slam the car into the next gear before you hit the limiter(6600 rpms).

Put the light where you can see it. Mine is on the little shelf behind the steering wheel(velcroed down). I also have a switch interupting the power to the light. Everytime you fire up the car the light goes off. There is a little going coin slot at the bottom of the shift area(around the cup holders). That's where I installed my power switch for the shift light. You need the light, just drop your hand off the shifter, click on the shift light and give them heck.

It's a lot of fun for ~$50.
