99SE for 13.5K?????

That's what the dealer offered for my 5spd. Car has 23k miles and every option available for a 5spd. I've purchased many cars so I was prepared for a lowball offer but this was even lower than expected. I was going to buy a 2k2 SE, but needless to say I walked out laughing.
What kind of screwball offers have you guys received?

Uggh. I just checked KBB.com and found mine to be worth 16.9 on a trade. The residual on my lease is 17.7.
I'm gonna look into leasing one of those G35's.

I don't think anyone's buying 99SE's (LOADED) for that price. GXE's, maybe.

Yeah, a bare bones GXE I believe, but the loaded SE's are still demanding a little closer to book.

Like Eric said, you have to go in expecting it. Of course he did the right thing walking out (laughing was a good touch too!).

I realize 95%+ of all Maximas are automagics but the sales manager informed me my car would have to be sold at auction because NO ONE would buy a 5spd.

Thats B.S. I bought 3 manual max's in hte last 27 months . None of them came from an action either.

Eric, take the offer and offer invoice on the new max, that way everything works out! BTW try www.edmunds.com , KBB seems a bit unrelistic to me. I just traded in my fully loaded 5spd 98 I30T with 46K miles on it for $14,900, of course I paid sticker on my 6spd, it all even's out in the end.

Eric,

The dealer is somewhat correct. Most Nissan dealers do not want 5-speeds because they are hard to move. The majority of America doesn't know how to drive a manual trans and therefore will not buy one. I have been looking at buying new/used manual Maxima and have found only a select group of dealers that stock this configuration. This is usually due to a salesman or two that know how to sell these cars to people like us (not many). As far as a trade-in, if the dealer is going to "wholsale" the car at an auction, they will give you less than wholesale so they can make some money on that end. A 1999 fully loaded 5-speed will sell at at dealer for $18k-$20k. They usually mark up the car in this price range about $5k so that would put your trade in the $13k-$15k range assummming they would sell it on their lot. Do you get my drift?

Jason, I know what you're saying. I don't like it but there is definitely truth to it. Nissan resale value is horrible, I think we all know that. I suppose I should not complain too much because I got the car for 6k off of sticker price. Try that with a Toyota or Honda.
I'm not bashing Toyota or Honda, they just don't deal as much on their vehicles and they don't have to. I like my Maxima and I'm not in a position where I have to sell so for now, Ill keep it. I've driven all the competition and some have better build quality but I don't think any offer better bang for the buck.

That's not enough i have the SE-L and I would never sell it for 13.5. Plus I can't believe that the dealer will only give you that much if you want to buy another car from them. Bastards!

Re: 5spds are hard to find

try and sell the car 'private party.' That is the only way you will 'save some face.' I am scared to see what I could get for my 98 GXE right now (private party or dealer).

my superblack 98 gxe with convenience package, alarm, sunroof and 56k miles was 10.5k $. A 99 SE can be found for like 14k. Maxima resale value falls fast. 2 years ago I bought a 93 SE for 7,200$, at that time 95 year Maximas were selling for 12+ grand. Now I am seeing the same cars going for 6-8 grand. Amazing. In 2-3 years I can probably buy a loaded 5th gen for around 10k $

Just look at another 99 maxima in the lot. Note the selling price. Then subtract that price from your dealer's asking price. Result is roughly what the dealer is going to make in profit. Then ask if my car is only worth $13.5 why are you selling this other maxima for $xxxx! Forget that auction stuff. Tell us what they say.

Jeff, I'm probably not going back there. We're too far apart on the $.
Maybe they'll call with a better offer but I won't hold my breath.
They had some 2k2 automatic SEs' for 22,999 but they were base with no options. 23k isn't bad for a stripped SE. Even the automatic had
noticeably more punch than my 99SE. The 17" wheels on the 2k2 reduce body roll alot which is nice.

I dont know if your in the NY area but this is for all the people that are. Anyone thats considering a 2K2 Max should definitely go down and see Dan Ziegler at Smithtown Nissan. He got DmbMaxima his 6 spd and some other members also got cars from him. He offered me a 2K2 Majestic Blue SE with Black Leather, BOSE, Moonroof, TCS, Meridian and all the other standard stuff( Xenon, 17's, ABS, Spoiler, Fogs) for the exact invoice price which beats out CarsDirect.com. This was with zero negotiation on my part. Then they apraised my 97 SE and along with the tax credit for the new car, it came out to be $10,826, which is what I would definitely be willing to take at this point if I was to get a private party buyer. Then he offered me 3.9% financing over 60 months or 0.9% over 36 which is with no real strings attached. All in all, an unbelievable deal and I'm definitely thinking it over. One of the biggest things stopping me is that in three years this car will be worth $15K if I'm lucky.

Yep, I bought my 95 5spd on 9/7/99, I paid $13,600 for it, it is a fully loaded SE 5spd with every option, it had 63K miles on it. At the time edmunds had the car listed at about $14,300. Now edmunds say's it's worth about $6,800{well dealer is $8000}. So if you compare the dealer #'s the car lost $7500. It made me feel sick when I looked it up the other day . Ohh well..
