Ghost leaks?
Ghost leaks?
Yesterday was the second time I've had ghost problems with the max. First was about a year ago, when the car started to smell strongly of gas when it was started. Both inside the car and out. Air conditioning didn't help much. My mom thought it was something leaking, so she had it brought in and checked...twice! It went away after a couple days and never bugged me since. Now the coolant is playing tricks on me. Yesterday my parents called me out to show me a big puddle of coolant under my car. The car had been sitting idle for about 48 hours. I popped the hood and discovered that my coolant was dangerously low. I had last checked it over the weekend when at my friends house. Then it was between Min and Max. Yesterday it was on Min. How did that much coolant get out of my car all of a sudden? Well, I brought it to the mechanic and he said he'd pressurize it and let it sit. The car sat over their for 12 hours. They found a pinhole leak that didn't even fill the cap of a bottle. He even said that with a leak that small, nothing like what happened to me should have occurred. He said that, from where it was leaking, there had to have been enough coolant to fill up on the heat shield and then overflow out. And since I had been driving frequently before xmas, most of the leaking coolant (if there was any) should have evaporated. He had not explanation. Neither did I. He refilled the coolant and it hasn't acted up since. Has anyone else have something similar happen to them?
I don't know if my max just didn't like the previous coolant, or what, but for some reason it started and stopped all of a sudden.
Oh, the pinhole leak was from the radiator. I poured some powder stuff in to somewhat fix the hole because even the mechanic admitted it would be too costly to fix professionally. Not worth it. Now my dad's thinking about getting rid of the max. He's askin me how much to expect off it and how much a replacement max would cost. I made some other car suggestions too. How does an eclipse or 240sx sound? He'll probably just end up getting me another max. This time I'll make sure it's a 92-94 SE, though. Then I'll buy it from them right before my sisters 16th b-day. hehe. I'm gonna start encouraging him to sell the max.
