"03 max availability??

Does anybody have a sense of when the "03 Max will go on sale. I am hoping to buy a new car in October but a Nissan dealership owner told me they won't be out by then. I find that hard to believe since the "02 max is a limited production compared to the "01 model year. I recall when the released the "00 it was way early in 1999. Since the "03 will be built in the USA, somebody should have know an aproximate release date.

It's supposed to be this summer/early Fall. We might be able to get one at our car show in September.

i'd like to know too... being at a car show doesn't mean it's on the market.

Thank you for the information airmattdog. That makes sense. Maybe the owner meant that the 6th generation would not be out until later? I spend some time on nissannews and freshalloy.com last night for more information. There is just a lot speculation on the "04 Max being released in early "03, which would mean a limited run for the "03. Would the 6th gen be the "04 or "03 model year? You knows? Either way my wife is changing cars in October and she may get a Max. I think I'll hang on to my "00 SE a little longer...

The next generation of Maxima will be the MY04 model, released sometime in 2003.

OK, got it now. This coming summer the marketing push for Nissan will be the for the new Z, so they should release the 6th gen Max as an early 04 model in 2003.

Of course, they won't be exactly identical. If any of you are curious the reason I started the thread is that I have to make some decisions about my current 00 Max SE and my wife's Altima lease which expires in Oct of 2002. She probably won't get another Nissan (wants a station wagon) and she has some minor damage on the car. Nissan will forgive the first $400 of excessive wear so I was thinking of possibly selling my Max on the street in the fall and getting a new Max when her lease expires. If I do that I won't upgrade my Max's tires now even though I have an impulse to do so. Sorry for the long explaination. I just obsess over these cars. This website and it's members have been a great source for information. Now I have to find out how much it will cost to fix her car so I can make a decision...

It will be pretty much identical what Nissan probably will do is change up the Packages like they usually do every year.

I am sure you are right, I'll hang on to my "00 and wait for the next generation. It is very tempting to get a new car every year or two. i have to get over that and hang on to my car until it collapses.

Thats my philosophy ysleep its always going to be something newer out their and if I tried to keep up with the Jones's I would be broke! The only reason I got my 2k2 was because my 2k1 was totalled, hopefully I will have the 2k2 until the doors fall off.

My friend from the dealership told me that 2003 Maxima should be available in Sept 2002 as a 2003 model, price similar to I35 with >260HP.

That's all I know, 100% sure? I am not, but who can confirm this?

Any further information, please let me know or I will post it. Thanks!

Enlighten me on the 6thGEN?
Are we talking RWD and a high end V6 or a detuned Q45 V8?

This MAXIMA better be RWD with full independant susp. I could actually think of making a purchase if that were the case; RWD that is. At least 300HP and keep the weight the same?

You should seriously consider the I35 should be priced at or around 30k and will be rear wheel drive. And it is released this march/april by the time your ready to buy you may get a good deal.

The I#% has the same engine tranny ,but the weight distribution will be 52/48 and the drag coefficient is .027. This thing is going to be freakin awesome. Wife will probably get the 2k2 max and I'll get this when it's time to trade hers in.

I looked at the G35 online. That car probably handles very nicely and looks upscale/trendy. Overall it has too many design issues to even be considered a possible purchase. I read that the new MAXIMA 04 will share the Z350 platform, so that should be interesting to say the least.
Right now I'm leaning back tworard BMW unless NISSAN produces a must have item.

yeah G35. typing has never been my strong suit

What design "design issues" The skyline platform is tried and true. The drag coefficent is super other than it being a new body I don't see how there will be to many issues.

Chassis wise, it could not get any better; powertrain wise I am sure that it could not get any better. These are engeneering aspects. From an engineering stand point NISSAN is first class. So no complaints from me.

Now as for the design aspect(as in the overall looks). This G35 is way too trendy for me. I see no classic lines. Yet another attempt at geo-organic body sculpture. Not a great looking car. Certainly would not make me want to sign over $30k. NISSAN is doing a great job as a newely revised auto maker. However if this is to be the Infiniti Revival vehicle, then I look forward to Infiniti consolidating into the parent company NISSAN.

It's a sad looking vehicle.

I see the blind are leading the blind on this thread. My inside source has told me that that the new Maxima will be a late '03 model (Which is exactly what Nissan has said. Why no one believes Nissan's own statements is beyond me.) This is also what the original poster was told. Production will start in January '03. Anyhow, my source tells me that he is currently being trained on an all new unannounced engine that will very likely appear in the new '03 Maxima. He won't say if it's a V-8 or not.

Good thing its not my car. That's the Maxima burnout from "The Fast and the Furious". Since I don't have my car yet I figured I'd put something in my sig anyhow. I grabbed a frame from the DVD and went from there.
