Any info on 8-gen ?

Ive yet to see, or hear anything from anybody at the plant. I highly doubt we will see anything on an 8th gen until next year around this time or later. Even when I worked there we didnt build one until December of 07 and that was just a test vehicle. We build somewhere around 35 cars in the first quarter of 08 before starting production

RWD? That will never happen. But AWD feels like a possibility. A Diesel 6MT makes sense to me as well, but I think that ship has sailed. Nissan is committed 100% to their CVT and one-footed drivers.
Personally, when I think "8th Gen", I think to myself what the next Org banner is going to look like. Because the line-em-up design is getting a bit crowded.

That 3rd Gen you're disrespecting exemplifies what I think of when I consider the Nissan Maxima. But I don't expect you to understand, otherwise you wouldn't have shared your lack of insight with the larger Org community.
Way to go, buddy.

5th gens are great cars . Girlfriend has a 2000 SE with 202,000 on the engine still runs like new almost. I drive a 6.5 gen and I personally like the way the 5th gen drives better

I think the only change to the Maxima, other than re-styling the interior and exterior, is the addition of the 3.7L engine. Maybe some revised suspension but I think the 3.7L engine will be the selling point for the Maxima.

...which it kind of does right now on my modded 5th gen.

Whatever they do next, it will have to distinguish itself enough from the G37 (or the G25) to justify buying the flagship model down-brand, rather than the entry-level model up-brand. I'm being loose with terminology, but you probably get what I'm saying.

and lol @ Clashez, the exhaust thread i thought well whatever but this thread has taken the cake

Yeah well Nissan needs to pull there heads out there ***"s and make that VQ just as fun as a Infiniti. I mean these maximas go for 35k brand new just about. You can't make a option with awd or even RWD or Manuel? Thats a fudgeing joke

Not everyone is a track specialist. Most people like the idea of having a more roomy car due to a FWD design.

dealerships had trouble selling 6th gens in stick so they said screw it, i cant remember which supercar it is now but i think it was Lambo or Ferrari thats going automatic only too now, no stick shift. plus stupid people dont care about their drive wheel, i remember a poll showed that something like 60 or 70% of people didnt know if their car was FWD/AWD/4WD/RWD
drive a old school car, that way you can get stick shift and most likely RWD

If they make an AWD Maxima then it'll be a front wheel biased AWD system with a CVT. Essentially the same thing that the Murano has, and for those of you who aren't aware, the Murano AWD system is pretty much a failure under real conditions.
Scroll to 6:20 for the hill tests and 7:48 for the Murano test.

The CVT is obviously the biggest weakness but my main point is that Nissan has a long way to go before we see REAL AWD cars that can compete with Audi, BMW, Subaru etc... Adding a driveshaft and sending 3.5% of the torque to the rear wheels is technically AWD but is useless under everyday conditions. They will be no better than the Honda's and Toyota's as seen in that video.

I would throw 2nd gens in there also my 87 had the 4DSC stickers from the factory although my 85 doesn't and since it does have the same drive train and suspension set up.......

When Nissan decides to offer a 6SPD manual with either an AWD or RWD platform in the Maxima like its luxury counterpart, i.e. Infiniti G37 sedan, the Maxima will never truly fulfill the expectations of a 4 door sports car. Cosmetics and performance must be balanced to truly achieve perfection. For example the Dodge Neon SRT4, with few mods the car can be made quite fast, however no matter how fast you make an SRT4 Neon, you cant outrun ugly. Let me tell you ladies and gentlemen, the Neon is one fugly looking car.

I think the new generation of Maxima's should have come in colors such as neon pink and lime green from factory. It is much better looking than the colors we have now.
Also maybe they can make like a RB28 or something, with a twin turbo from the GTR. I'm sure the CVT can handle it, I mean its made to handle 600HP before needing to be upgraded right?

My feeling on that has always been this... We all want the most out of a car without breaking the bank to get it. It does that. Cheap speed FTW from neon to lancer to impreza to mustang to camaro.

AWD is the most logical step but how much will be sent to the back, if the new max is to be made i would love to find out that it had 60% to the back wheels.
And as to finding out what drive your car was i learned the hard way, let's just say i was drunk and someone said drift. lol
also don't nominate me for dumbass of the month please

I think all wheel drive would be a good thing but I think that will raise the price points. Maybe if they made a 3.7x model that would solve things, but I doubt Nissan will do that. My guess would be they are going to put the 3.7L engine in the Maxima and detune it to around 300hp. I would also guess they will put torque vectoring on it to help reduce torque steer. We will see in 2013 whats next for the Maxima.

If I recall, the Altima, Maxima, and Teana all share a platform so in essence, this is a 2013 Altima. So maybe we can get an idea of the 8th gen Maxima from this, Nissan almost always uses the Altima as a preface for the Maxima...
