best wax?
best wax?
I live in the rainy South and need a good wax for my Maxima AE. I use Meguiars now, but I am looking for other suggestions. Also, I have spotting. Is there a wax that repels water to help prevent water spotting? Thanks for any suggestions!

Race Glaze is the best way to go (adding yet another opinion to the list.) It goes on really smoothly with a damp sponge. Buff off (again, really easily) with a soft towel. It lasts for months; I wax twice a year and have year-round shine, even in Wisconsin. You can get it online from Pegasus Auto Racing.
Zaino is also an excellent product but I think it works best on dark-colored cars where it can really enhance color depth. I have had poor luck with Zymol (the real stuff.) It was not easy to put on and took ages to buff off. To add insult, it lasted only a month or two.
Just my opinions. Good luck.

TOM

Avoid the expensive Zymol, the cheap Walmart stuff works best. P21S is even better if your into that carnuba thing (like I used to be) and Zaino is the best all-round polish for those that don't like to detail areas of their cars on a daily basis (last longer than anything else that I've tried). There are polishes that are designed to sheet instead of bead to avoid water spots (so some people claim), but I've never tried them.
Regardless of which wax/polish you use, the key is in the preparation. It may even be worth while getting someone to claybar, power polish and dewax your car once (if your not into that stuff yourself) before applying something like Zaino.

A wax that doesn't come off even with a solvent like that??? Time to check out their website!
aka the proverbial monkey wrench
We have had a few peeps chime in about Zymol and a few about Zaino. If you are looking for durability as well as shine, then your best bet would be to go with Zaino because Zaino is a synthetic polymer which will last much longer than the average carnuba wax. I use Klasse with a Pinnacle Souveran topping.
I find that Klasse is very easy to apply and remove. Klasse is a polymer like Zaino and it has a high gloss as well. In fact, the picture in my sig is what my Max looks like after I applied Klasse. Also, I use the Pinnacle Souveran to add depth to the Klasse. A new Polymer system on the market is called Blackfire.
If you want to see some reviews of waxes and polymers, check out www.thewaxtest.com.
But remember, results vary with paint preparation.

Paint needs to move, everyone knows this...thats what the agent is for(forgot what its called?)...Polymers negate that completely and the paint will be easier to crack and chip in the future(simply because the paint isn't able to flex)
I read a long write-up about this on the internet somewhere while deciding on whether or not to by Zaino...he did tests specifically on Polymer waxes and I think he eventually had to use light sanding to get the stuff off

....as a reference look at cars that use NuShine(polymer)...theres a reason why those waxes say you only have to reapply every 6 months!!!
I would go with Ibiz or a Meguires Polish/Zymol CleanerWax combo...when I used the Megs/Zymol combo....several people including a gas station pump attendant asked why I had gotten a new paint job on a 1 1/2 year old car

Car is dirty in that pic too, and Zaino shines right through the dirt!

Camera was in ISO mode, so it took a slightly blurry shot.

Zanio is all the rage on the Corvette forums and I use it on mine which is not driven in bad weather and it is great on that car. It does not leave white residue in cracks and has a fab shine.
It does not clean so you have to two step. I am not sure it holds up well on a daily driver so on other cars I use a wax/cleaner.

I used Meguire 3 steps early last summer to get the shine back on my 99SE. This system works well, but is harder to apply, and left white residue. Tried Zaino and that became addictive. The first time takes longer to do, but after that everything is easy and quick. The stuff are all easy to apply, smell good, and last. The shine is very nice, first on my old 99SE, and now my 2002 Blue. The stuff is addictive.

Smells good? I suppose that's a nice bonus if not a selling point. What does it smell like?

When I actually have a RWD car, I'll try drifting out of my driveway.
