Question for all the 2K2 owners.......
How long do you plan to keep the car?
I was offered a 2K2 with every single option except Nav (Lthr, MR w/def, BOSE, Meridian, Dig Clim Cntrl, Trac Cntrl, splash Guards and mats) (MSRP $30,700) for $27,700. With a trade in of $10,800 for my 4th gen as well as 0.9% for 36 months or 3.9% for 60 months. I was considering it and kept thinking I'll finance it for the 36 month period and then sell it once I pay it off (Since I seem to get tired of cars pretty fast). Then I think about the horrible resale value and basically come to a conclusion that it would make no sense to do it. I've also thought about the fact that this car pretty much has everything thats offered on any top notch luxury sedan and the insane performance to go with it and so it should be able to keep me happy. So thats why I'd like to know how long you guys were planning to keep yours for and what are your thoughts on the offered deal.

Re: Question for all the 2K2 owners.......
because of devaluation it's a good idea to buy most nissans used. wait a year and that same max will be $20K. hell, as soon as you leave the lot the value drops $5000. take advantage of it and get a good max next year. keep your 4th gen to experiment with

My current plan is to keep it for 4 years/60K miles. At that time the car will still be worth $12-14K and I will get another $12-14K loan and buy another new car. I don't see the point in keeping a car more then 4 years, you really don't save money doing that unless you buy used cars{repairs etc.}.
But who knows? I have had 5 cars and I have only been driving for about 5 years, so who's to say I won't be driving a G35 next year?

About 7 to 10 yrs. That's my plan for now and that's why I got every option I wanted.
A lot depends on how it holds up. Although I take excellent care of my cars, I tend to be pretty rough on them.

I plan to keep mine for 6 - 8 years. Pay it off in four years and then take a break from payments and get a new car then.
I purchased the Nissan extended warranty for 6 year / 160,000 km coverage. May sell when there is still a bit of warranty left.

This really depends on how long YOU plan on keeping the car, doesn't it? I think the 0.9% route is the best since you pay less interest over the life of the loan but I imagine the payment is high. I don't like to pay any more interest than I have to. If you decide to keep the car after the 3 year period, then you are ahead of the game.
BTW, where'd you get that price? My wife and I are going to check out 2002 Maximas soon also.

This is at Smithtown Nissan (Exit 56 LIE), the salesman is an .org member(Dan Ziegler). Dmbmaxima88 and several other members have bought cars from him. He gave me a flat out phonomenal price which is exactly at invoice and beats out Carsdirect.com (Which I thought was impossible). The most amazing thing was that I didnt even try to negotiate one bit at that point, that was his first offer. Also, I got a great trade in for my 97 of $10,800. We estimated that if I was to go the 36 month 0.9% route, my payments (Considering the trade in) would only be $545 or so which isnt bad at all considering I own it at the end. I'm still thinking it over as I hate the idea of getting stuck with any car more than two years.

That seems like a good deal considering most guys who bought similar 2002 Maximas equipped like yours payed $30k+. Long Island is a bit far for me from central NJ but I wonder if any other Org memebers work for dealers closer to me.

Hopefully I can pick up a low mileage 2002 Maxima GLE/Altima SE late next year for around $18K. Might also look at WRXs.

I found Ramsey Nissan on RT 17 to be pretty good overall. They seem like you could definitely negotiate with them. So far, they have given me the best lease price on a 2K2 Max.

<<This is how I buy my cars. I let the first owner take the huge hit in depreciation. I bought my 94 Z28 (lady driven, sold for $23700 new) with 15K miles and 1.5 years old for $15500. I bought my 96 Maxima with 30K miles and 1.5 years old for $15000 (I've got the window sticker showing $24700 MSRP). I bought my wife's 98 Legacy GT wagon (sold for $26100) with 35K miles and 2 years old for $15000. I always trade-in. If I don't get the trade I want, I walk. It's as simple as that. I buy all my cars for cash because I absolutely hate car payments. Buying cars for cash usually will always land you a better deal plus the whole buying process goes much quicker. Definitely think thats the best way to go about it as the cars are barely used meanwhile have already lost 25% of the original value. Thats why I'm strongly considering a lease of a slightly owned car. I mean I could lease a Benz E430 or C43 AMG for the same exact amount as a 2K2 Maxima, also for 24 months compared to 39 months which plays a huge role in pricing.
